Chapter 38 – Last Week at Redondo Beach
Tina: Jim, everything looks wonderful. The wood work looks brand new. The doors look new. Shall we look at the decks and the exterior.
Jim: Certainly. Why don’t we start with your private deck?
Bette: Oh my. It looks brand new.
Jim: It’s in an ultra-violet protective stain which has an anti-microbial element to keep it fresher looking for a longer period of time. You will not have to have this done again for at least 5 years. It will need to be pressure washed at least annually. You live too close to the ocean not to have the house pressure washed at least annually. Let’s go look at the other deck and the stairs to the patio.
The wood looked fabulous. The exterior looked clean and fresh. All the vines were gone and the flower beds looked neat and trimmed and had fresh mulch. Jim said that the roof was in very good shape and took the pressure wash. All the pool plumbing looked good. They toured the cabana house and it looked great too.
Jim: This cabana house has a heat and air unit. It could be prepped out as an additional bedroom and sitting room if it were needed. You would then need to keep your pool toys in the storage room. But that would be up to you.
Bette: Actually, I think that is a good idea. Why don’t we do that. Put the king size bed that you were going to put in Daniel’s room into the pool house and put two queen size beds in his room. Of course, we will need some more sitting room furniture. It will also need drapes and linens as well.
Jim: Leave that to me. I think you are going to be pleased with what I have in mind. It is going to be the perfect guest space.
Bette: Okay, do you have some invoices for us? We are childless today and we have a bunch to do. We are actually moving from the beach house to here today.
Jim: I need the final on the painting is $10,000. I need $85,000 for the closet redo. And I need $100,000 deposit on the drapes and new furnishing phase of this project. And I need $50,000 total for the outdoor furniture which will be delivered and set up today. I may need more in a week or so. But I really won’t know until all your furniture gets here tomorrow and placed. Now, I may be here most of the day tomorrow. Does that bother you?
