Chapter 38 – Last Week at Redondo Beach

Tina asked if Jim could get a dumpster for card board recycling delivered for the weekend. With all the boxes that were coming to the house, they hated not to recycle it. Jim promised one would be delivered by 2:00 pm this afternoon.

Bette and Tina went into each room’s closet to see the new closet organizer systems. They were truly a work of art according to Bette. She loved what had been done. Each one was custom to the closet’s layout and space to give maximum use of space. They were also made of a dark stained wood which matched the trim and judges panel throughout the house. There were built in chest of drawers, shoe shelves, sweater shelves and hanging clothes space for in both half-length and full length. Both of the master closets were particularly well done. The hardware was neat and unobtrusive. Everything was the quality of finely made cabinetry.

Jim: I have tested and inspected every drawer, every door and every shelf. I can find no flaws in this guy’s work. He is a bit expensive, but the quality is top drawer.

Bette:  Well, let’s cut this guy a check today. This is amazing. What do you think Tina?

Tina:  I love it. It’s more than I ever expected. And what woman doesn’t love a well-designed closet.

Jim: Well, this is not the way I like to do business and I told that guy that he was in trouble and in danger of losing his shirt. If you refused to pay for his work, he had absolutely no way of getting his money out of what he has done. You didn’t order it and you didn’t agree to have it done yet he’s in there putting it in. And if you didn’t pay for it, then I wouldn’t either. The next person may not be as understanding. They will say thank you and then change the locks. I hope he has learned his lesson.

Bette:  I know plenty of people who would have accepted this as a gift. But I’m going to give him a break. But if he ever does this again. He will be out of business. No one will hire him and no one will pay for something they didn’t ask for.
