Chapter 38 – Last Week at Redondo Beach

Tina:  I have sports bras which will fit you just fine. You know it kind of a turn on thinking about you wearing my undies.

Bette: Well, by later this evening I should have access to all of my clothes again. I’ll grab something for tomorrow when I am arranging my wardrobe this afternoon. We should unpack all the boxes except maybe the office stuff. And maybe we can get Jim to purchase for us a good set of hand trucks to move boxes if they are in the wrong room once our help is gone.

Tina:  Good idea. I’ll call him. He can add it to our bill. He is supposed to be at the house when the patio furniture arrives this afternoon.

    Bette: I am so excited.

Cleaning up the kitchen was a breeze since they ate out of disposable dishes. Bette put all the kitchen towels and aprons which belonged to the beach house in the laundry and washed and dried them. That was their last meal at the beach house. Bette gathered all the garage door openers and keys and placed them on the dining table. Tina checked the mail and went on line and put in a forwarding address to the Santa Monica address. The moving guys came in and began assembling boxes and moving things out into the truck. They worked on the media room first and then went to the bedrooms and packed each closet, then hauled the boxes and the suitcase out to the truck. By 2:30 they were on the road to Santa Monica. Bette drove her car and Tina drove her car. They pulled into the main garage and took a load into the laundry room and then directed the movers to the elevator and then to each room where the items would go. They place each box near the closet door. While assisting the Redondo Beach movers, the patio furniture arrived. Bette thanked the movers from Redondo Beach and promised a bank transfer on Monday provided she had an invoice in her email. Bette and Tina decided that they would work on Angie and Daniel’s room first and get everything into the closet. Bette decided to leave the suitcases packed for Daniel to unpack. Tina decided to hold off on Angie’s suitcase until her furniture arrived the next day. Some of the clothes needed to be in the chest of drawers but whether in the built in one or the free standing one depended on the furniture layout. Knowing that most of Angie’s clothing was in New Haven made things easier. The things Angie left were her spring and summer things. And of course, Angie was limited to what she could bring in a couple of suit cases at the beginning of the summer. Bette believed that they would probably need to do some shopping in the spring. They finished the kid’s room and went to their own room and began to empty the boxes. Bette decided that she would take the right-side racks and shelves and Tina would take the left. Each alcove of the closet were two mirror images of the other side. Bette decided that she would put everything of hers into the closet to be out of the way for the boxes to come tomorrow. There would be more boxes of clothes and shoes and hand bags. She had only about six pair of shoes available at the moment and only three different hand bags. But she had lots of casual clothes which she had worn most of the summer. Tina was in the same. However, she had taken a few of her older casual clothes and designated them as painting clothes and taken them to the studio. Tina had brought from several of Bette’s business suits as she knew she would need them once she began her work at UCLA. The balance of their wardrobe was about equal. Some casual dressy clothing which consisted of dress slacks and blouses mostly. There were a few pants suits, a couple of jump suits and a few summer dresses. Tina noticed that some of her dresses had ended up in Angie’s closet. Bette noticed that a couple of hers were missing and suspected that Angie had those as well.
