Chapter 4 – The Doctor Visit

Angie:  Sounds horrible. What can you do about them?

Bette:  Live through them.  Drink lots of water, exercise and eat a balanced diet. And if it gets severe, then see the doctor for help.

Tina:  So, if you see your moms turning the air conditioner to a freezing cold temperature in the house, it’s because we are going through hot flashes and wants to cool off.

Daniel:  Why don’t you just go take a cold shower?

Bette:  So, if we have four or five per day, are we going to take 4 or 5 cold showers per day? That would put me in shower most of the day.  And what if they happen while I’m work? What would I do then? Say excuse me, I have to run home and take a cold shower. I don’t think that would work. So, I have to do what I can to stay comfortable and hope that this stage of my life passes quickly and just deal with it when it happens.

Tina:  I remember when Kit went through this. She kept The Planet cold as a meat cooler.

    Everyone laughed.

Tina:  We all laughed then too.  It’s not as funny now. Now we understand why she did it.

Angie:  Are there any more side effects of menopause?

Bette:  There are a few other side effects but I’m not ready to talk about those just yet.  I want to wait and see what develops. There’s no sense in anticipating problems which you can do nothing to prevent. It will be what it will be.

Tina: We are going to be fine. It’s a natural process. It may be a little uncomfortable at times, but it’s  something that millions of women have been through. And we will get through it too. Now Angie, what about those trunks?  Are you interested?

Angie:  Well, now that you describe how they can be used for storage space, yes, I am. The chest of drawers, the closet and the desk only has only so much storage space. This sounds good as long as they are not too ugly.

Bette:  I recommend that you get something which kind of blends in with the room. Nothing flashy or calls attention to them. That keeps the sticky fingers out of them.
