Tina:  Exactly.

Paris and Jeanette walked up and were greeted by Bette and Tina.  Bette hugged her sister and kissed her on her cheek.  She then took Jeanette’s hand and leaned over and kissed Jeanette on the check.

Bette:  Paris, before you sit down, why don’t you join me in the bar for a drink.  I need to talk to you.

Tina:  We are going to go ahead and get some hors d’oeuvres.  Jeanette let’s have a cocktail.  Angie what would you like? How about you Daniel?

Bette and Paris walked to the bar and took two stools at the end.  Bette ordered a Manhattan dry and Paris ordered a scotch and water.

Bette: So how was your day?

Paris:  Fairly good.  No big headaches today.

Bette:  Okay, let me get to what I need to talk to you about.  On Sunday, after you guys left, Kit told me that she had received a letter from our dearly beloved father’s law firm.  She gave me the letter and it said that The Estate of Melvin William Porter will be making its final distribution in mid-October 2019. This was a surprise to both me and to Kit. We received a distribution some 18 years ago and we thought that was it. Well, Kit’s thought was that you deserve one third of Dad’s estate. You are just as much his daughter as she is or as I am.  I agreed with her.  Wait…don’t interrupt. Just let me finish.

Bette:  We discussed it and I asked her to call the attorney the next day and have him send overnight copies of Melvin’s will, and trust documents which were the result of the will and an accounting of all distributions made by the estate to date. Kit received that package yesterday. She then had Sonny go make copies and I met with her last night. Paris. The good news is that you have been provided for in the will even though you are not specifically named. You are referred to as Unknown child of Mary Southerland and Melvin Potter.

Paris:  He provided for me in his will?  That means he knew I existed!

Bette:  It would appear so. And he also knew that Maxine Brown Porter aka Mary Southerland was alive. The thing is we do not know when or how he found out you existed and that his wife was indeed alive. But before you go down that path, there is more in the will.
