Chapter 40 – Do You Wanna Come In?
“Your father was Melvin Porter?” Tina knew all about the case. Porter had written and composed countless songs during the jazz era but had never become a member of a publishing company. When he released albums on the Birdland label, they assumed creative control of his material unbeknownst to Porter. When Porter tried playing his original songs at a club after his contract with Birdland expired, the label sued him in federal court and requested a temporary restraining order preventing Porter from playing his own songs at live performances where the audience paid to see him play.
The litigation went on for years. After his death, the court had found in favor of the label. It claimed that after over 40 years of never owning his own recordings or songs because they were owned by the label, Porter received the benefit of the songs’ profits, and that he had plenty of opportunity to renegotiate the contracts so that he would have more creative control over his creations but chose not to and should not affect the rights of the label. In short, Little Vinny Porter had gotten fucked by his label.
“Yes, he was.” Bette answered Tina’s question.
“Shit. No wonder you don’t trust record labels.” It all made perfect sense to Tina now. Compounded by the fact that Kit was dropped from her label when she went into rehab, Tina honestly could not blame Bette for being suspicious of her once she found out that she was an A&R executive.
Bette chuckled at Tina’s epiphany. “Yeah. Sorry you had to find out the hard way.”
Tina flashed Bette an adorable smile. “Don’t worry. So far it’s been worth it.”
Her statement made Bette blush.
“What about your mother?”
“Kit’s mom was a choir singer back in the day. And my mom was what I like to call, a professional music appreciator.” Bette grinned.
“Professional music appreciator?”
“It’s a euphemism for ‘groupie.’ She met my father at a show he was playing in Philly.”
“Aaaah. I see. It didn’t even occur to me that you and Kit were only half-siblings.” Tina said.
“Really?” Bette was surprised Tina didn’t see the differences between her sister and herself. Bette was always much fairer-skinned than her father or Kit. Whenever people would see the three of them together, they always assumed that Bette was adopted or a cousin.

Thanks for the chapter!
Bette, Bette, why don’t you come in?:)
Ahh, and i forgot to tell something about references in past chapters – i just hate words “Spaghetti girl”. Maybe it’s because that originally they come from Jodi, but i just hate them
meloveslu says
I thought spaghetti girl was a rather clever line.
And Bette is kicking herself on the drive home for not coming in =)
Zhenya says
After that scene in TLW for me “spaghetti girl” is insult, like “carpet muncher” or “faggot”

Haha, poor Tina, seeking for her fourth orgasm that day ????, the poor girl must be almost dehydrated.
MeLL, it is a pleasure to read this story again!!!

Thanks Bibi!
Yep, Tina was in for a marathon of O’s after her interactions with Bette. I don’t blame her one bit!

Yeah, Bette, I had a wonderful time this evening, too :-) Thanks for this date … eeeh.. chapter, MeLL.
You capture the chemistry between T + B really excellently. Sizzling hot already.
Seeing how comfortable Tina is with teasing, innuendos, holding hands and kissing Bette, you’re definitely showing how Tina is Bettesexual.
You really know a lot about music, don’t you? Quite the aficionado, I’d say. :-)
The Easter egg..hmm… the name of the Yacht? Dream on by either Nazareth or Aerosmith?
Thanks for spending some of your lazy time for us by posting!

Remember, it wasn’t a date, it was an obligatory repentance ;-)
And thanks so much for the warm words.
As I suspected, you found that Easter egg with no problems (Aerosmith)! And yes, like Tina, I am a huge music aficionado. My library is so eclectic. Every time I play a game called Song Quiz with my friends who have an Amazon Echo (Alexa), I always kick their ass because I know the most obscure titles and artists. I pride myself on my musical knowledge.
See ya Sunday!
