Chapter 5 – A Day with No Plans
When they returned, they were perspiring lightly but that felt that they had sufficient exercise. Bette went and found a towel and wipe her face and arms and handed it to Tina. They both put on their sweat suits before going into the air-conditioned house. Angie and Daniel were in the kitchen finishing up the yogurt preparation. Bette and Tina decided to get their water, coffee and check their emails.
Bette: Oh my God. I have an email from George Shultz. Let’s see what George has to say.
Bette quickly read the email.
Bette: Tina, come read this.
Tina: What is it?
Bette: It’s from the Dean of the School of Arts at UCLA.

Ms. Elizabeth M. Kennard Potter
Dear Ms. Potter,
I have spoken to the Chancellor of the University of California Los Angeles and he has approved the creation of a teaching position for you. Should you decline the position, the approval for the position is withdrawn. Therefore, it is my pleasure to ask you to meet with me so that we can design this position in order to meet the needs of the school as well as your requirements for employment. Once we have a job description, we will make a definitive job offer which will include all the terms of your employment. We can discuss the terms of employment when we discuss the position. Once we are in agreement, all would be put in writing and once executed would constitute an employment agreement.
I cannot emphasize enough that time is of the essence. Therefore, I am requesting that we meet at my offices at 10:00 am on Monday morning July 30, 2019. Plan on spending at least two hours for this meeting. After the meeting, I would be pleased if you would join me for lunch at UCLA Staff Dining Room as my guest. I think you will find the cuisine to be as pleasing as many of the commercial establishments in the area.
Attached are written directions as well as a map of the UCLA campus to assist you in locating my office.
I look forward to your response and to meeting you in person. I hope that you will find UCLA to be the ideal place for your new professional home.
