(Tina) Um, well…
(Bette) Forget I said that, sorry
(Tina) It’s OK
There is another silent moment.
(Tina) Bette I’m just not sure whether that’s…
(Bette) Really Tina, just forget about it. I’m just excited I guess, I wasn’t thinking. Let’s talk tomorrow
Tina takes a breath and chews her lip.
(Bette) I better run anyway. It’s a relief but it also means I have a million and one things to do, and a very short turnaround time
Tina nods.
(Tina) OK
Tina takes another breath.
(Tina) Well congratulations again
Bette answers distractedly, feeling embarrassed and wanting to end the call quickly.
(Bette) Thanks, I’ll see you soon
(Tina) Tomorrow night?
(Bette) Can I let you know?
Tina rubs her forehead, lamenting the direction the conversation has taken.
(Tina) Sure. Of course
(Bette) OK, bye Tina
Bette ends the call abruptly and Tina sits back in her chair.
That evening, the Planet. Bette, Alice, Shane and Dana have been enjoying a few drinks and celebrating Bette’s upcoming show. As the others chat away happily Bette sits back for a moment and looks around the room, frowning when her eyes catch Tina making her way from the front entrance. Bette stands and makes her way over to her and they meet eyes as Bette approaches. Bette comes to a stop a step away from her and looks at her curiously.
(Bette) Well this is a surprise, what are you doing here?
Tina leans her head to one side and looks back at her.
(Tina) I thought you invited me
(Bette laughs) I did. You did not respond like someone who was coming though
Tina smiles.
(Tina) You caught me off guard, but I wanted to come and congratulate you properly
Bette nods and Tina examines her for a moment and frowns.
(Tina) You do want me here don’t you? Because I don’t have to stay
She looks around the room.
(Tina) Sorry I guess I should have checked again…
Bette interrupts her and smiles.
(Bette) Of course I want you here
Tina looks back to her and Bette smiles at her.
(Bette) Did you come on your own?
(Tina) Helena is meeting me here. I spoke to her this afternoon and told her I was planning on coming tonight, and she insisted on joining me. Apparently you have a particular friend she wants to protect me from

Also very intrigued re: Helena’s response, “She’s not emotionally unavailable, by the way. So far from it actually. That’s the wrong description of her”. Hmm!
I love this story, thank again for another amazing post.
This story is very intriguing… I’m just not sure about these two. It is obvious to everyone that these two are very much into each other… their behavior is very much into each other… but they keep going with this façade that this is just enjoying each other in the moment with no attachments and no commitments and no promises of any future. I do not know how much longer this can continue. Whether they admit it or not, they are truly connected and a sudden unavailability of one or the other would be devastating to both of them. So why not face the truth and admit this each other? This is a game at this point… time to chunk the rules of engagement and just be the people they are.

Reading your stories is more pleasurable/addicting than eating chocolate
It’s obvious they are both playing a game to protect their feelings for each other. Something’s coming up that will make them both admit how they truly feel. I really like this story a lot.
