Chapter 8
Tina looks at her with eyebrows raised and Bette smiles.
(Bette) That would be Alice
Tina nods.
(Bette) She’s harmless but you should probably expect some sort of interrogation
Tina smiles and nods
(Tina) OK
Tina looks towards the tables.
(Tina) Well should we head over, you have a table?
Bette looks at her for a moment.
(Bette) We do, but I think we should probably have another conversation before we go and join them
Tina looks back at her and frowns.
(Tina) OK
(Bette) I guess I’m not really sure how to act around you with our friends all around us
Tina looks back towards the tables, seeing Helena arrive and greet Alice, Shane and Dana. She looks back to Bette.
(Tina) Do we need to stress about it? Let’s just act however we feel like
Bette looks at her uncertainly.
(Bette) Mmmm, I think I might need more guidance from you than that. I really don’t want to act in any way that makes you uncomfortable
Tina smiles at her.
(Bette) I know if we’re as affectionate with each other as we have been that my friends for one will be reading something into that. Making something of what we’re doing that I don’t think you’ll appreciate
Tina nods as she listens.
(Bette) Personally I don’t care very much what our friends might think, so I’m happy to act how we would usually act when we’re out together
Bette shrugs.
(Bette) But it’s fine if you feel differently
Tina smiles at her for a moment and then steps towards her, moving her hands around Bette’s waist.
(Tina) I don’t care what anyone thinks either
Bette smiles and moves her hands around to Tina’s back and pulls her closer.
(Tina) The only thing that matters to me is our understanding of what this is. And what it isn’t. As long as we’re both clear on that I couldn’t care less what anyone else makes of it
She shrugs.
(Tina) It just doesn’t matter
Bette nods.
(Bette) OK, good to know
They look at each other for a moment, Tina examining her and sensing Bette has more to say. She reaches up and runs her fingers through Bette’s hair.
(Tina) What is it?
Bette looks back at her and takes a breath.

The lines are blurred. Very, very blurred.

Also very intrigued re: Helena’s response, “She’s not emotionally unavailable, by the way. So far from it actually. That’s the wrong description of her”. Hmm!

This story is very intriguing… I’m just not sure about these two. It is obvious to everyone that these two are very much into each other… their behavior is very much into each other… but they keep going with this façade that this is just enjoying each other in the moment with no attachments and no commitments and no promises of any future. I do not know how much longer this can continue. Whether they admit it or not, they are truly connected and a sudden unavailability of one or the other would be devastating to both of them. So why not face the truth and admit this each other? This is a game at this point… time to chunk the rules of engagement and just be the people they are.

It’s obvious they are both playing a game to protect their feelings for each other. Something’s coming up that will make them both admit how they truly feel. I really like this story a lot.
