Chapter 8
(Bette) Were you worried when I asked you here tonight that I was asking for something more from you?
Tina furrows her brow and looks back at her.
(Tina) Initially, I guess. In my experience someone asking me to meet their friends is usually a sign we’re not on the same page
Bette looks at her and frowns.
(Bette) But you came anyway
Tina smiles as she runs her hands down Bette’s arms.
(Tina) Yeah
They smile at each other.
(Tina) I thought about it, and this feels different to other times I’ve been in these sorts of situations. I don’t feel like you’re pushing me, or trying to box me into something
Bette shakes her head.
(Bette) I’m not. And it’s not what I meant by asking you to come. I really just wanted to see you. To see you tonight and having you come here was the only way to do that
She shrugs and Tina smiles at her.
(Tina) Well I wanted to see you too
They smile at each other.
(Bette) I’m really glad you’re here
(Tina smiles) Me too
They both smile as Bette moves her arms around Tina’s waist, pulling her towards her and kissing her. Tina brings her arms around Bette’s neck and Bette traces her fingers down the centre of Tina’s back. They draw back and continue to hold each other close.
(Bette) So what does congratulating me properly involve, exactly?
Tina smiles as Bette leans closer and kisses her neck.
(Tina) Mmmm, you’ll just have to wait until later tonight to find out
Bette smiles into her neck.
(Bette) OK
Bette leans back and they smile at each other.
(Tina) Should we head over?
They both look towards the table, and several sets of eyes dart away from them. They look back to each other and laugh. Bette smiles and pulls her closer.
(Bette) I’m tempted to just ditch this whole thing and sneak away quietly with you
(Tina smiles) Well that sounds wonderful, but I think they’d be pretty cross
They step back and smile as they both reach for the other’s hand and make their way across the room together.
They arrive to where the group have settled and both move towards one of the small couches surrounding the table. Bette smiles and waves her hand towards her friends.

The lines are blurred. Very, very blurred.
Also very intrigued re: Helena’s response, “She’s not emotionally unavailable, by the way. So far from it actually. That’s the wrong description of her”. Hmm!
I love this story, thank again for another amazing post.
This story is very intriguing… I’m just not sure about these two. It is obvious to everyone that these two are very much into each other… their behavior is very much into each other… but they keep going with this façade that this is just enjoying each other in the moment with no attachments and no commitments and no promises of any future. I do not know how much longer this can continue. Whether they admit it or not, they are truly connected and a sudden unavailability of one or the other would be devastating to both of them. So why not face the truth and admit this each other? This is a game at this point… time to chunk the rules of engagement and just be the people they are.
I’m really enjoying this story. Thanks
Reading your stories is more pleasurable/addicting than eating chocolate
It’s obvious they are both playing a game to protect their feelings for each other. Something’s coming up that will make them both admit how they truly feel. I really like this story a lot.
