Chapter 8 – Packing for New York
Tina: Well, you’ll have a nice clean bed tonight. It will help you sleep.
Bette: I think a dirty pillow case will help me sleep better.
Tina: Yeah, me too. Come on, let’s get going.
They went down to the kitchen and laundry room. Angie greeted them and announced that she had already washed her sheets and Daniel’s were in the washer. Both beds had been made up with clean sheets. She didn’t have many clothes to wash since she had been working on it all week, so laundry should be caught up by lunch. Bette was stunned.
Bette: Wow… Thank you honey. That was really thoughtful of you.
Angie: Well, Dan and I figured that you and Mom needed some alone time. So, we decided to do some things around the house to make our lives a little easier. I’m going to pack right after lunch. However, if we have plans for the afternoon, I’ll go now and get started?
Bette: Have you and Daniel had breakfast?
Angie: Yes, we have. I found some French Toast in the freezer and I cooked some bacon and we had some sliced oranges with it. We ate a couple of hours ago. I left some bacon for you and mom in the oven – no heat on. I figured you could fix whatever you wanted.
Bette: Wow…. Thank you. Why don’t you go get started with your packing? Maybe we will watch a movie this afternoon. There’s a new Star Wars movie out that Daniel wanted us all to see. Maybe we will watch that this afternoon.
Angie: Yeah, that sounds good. Maybe we can have some popcorn and snacks. Since Mom and I will have dinner aboard the plane, we won’t be here for dinner.
Bette: Maybe I should try and figure out what Dan and I are going to do for dinner. We are going to be eating out a lot this week, so a home cooked meal would be nice.
Angie: Mom has a lot of stuff to choose from in the freeze – chicken parmesan, spaghetti, a meat loaf dinner. Add a few veggies and you’ll be all set.
Bette: You really are my daughter, aren’t you? Thank you, sweetie. Now you take care of Mom in New York. Make sure she eats and gets some sleep. There are lots or restaurants around the apartment that you can get some great food. Take time to have your meals on a regular basis. It’s important for both of you.

Deanna,
Thank you for reading and commenting. We have many more chapters of Volume 2 to go. I will be posting at least 2 chapters per week and some chapters are quite long. My goal was to present Bette and Tina and what life would be like in my view if there had been no Gen Q…. This is the summer the family moves to the Los Angeles area… They are in the process of changing professions, changing homes, getting Angie ready for Yale and getting a school for Daniel. The next chapters are where some of their real work begins. Tina and Angie go to New York to get Angie’s wardrobe ready and Bette keeps Daniel and works with him to get him ready for his new school year. This is the first time Bette and Tina have been apart all summer… hope you enjoy this next few chapters.
