Chapter 8 – Packing for New York
Angie: Oh, I will. I’m going to miss you, Mama. I’m going to miss Daniel, too. He has been incredible this week. He has been helpful and sweet.
Bette walked over and hugged Angie.
Bette: Sweetie, it’s only for a few days. But we will miss you too as well as your mom. And when you get back, driving lessons start. And we have a birthday to celebrate as well!
Angie: Oh yeah…. I’m going to officially be an adult. Wow…. I hope I’m ready.
Bette: Well, we have a few more weeks of tutoring, but ready or not, you will be an adult. I know your mom and I are not ready for it, but we don’t have a choice. So, we will be getting ready right along with you. And I have no doubts that you will be a wonderful young woman and you have a very bright future ahead of you. We just want for you to be who you want to be and to be happy. And that part is up to you. We love so much Angelica Kennard Porter. And we are so proud of who you are.
Angie hugged Bette tightly and had a few tears in her eyes.
Angie: I love you mama.
Bette: Run along and give your Mama a good morning hug and then start your packing.
Tina was making coffee and had found the bacon in the oven. She was trying to decide what to fix for lunch and so she could then decide what she and Bette would have for breakfast. She decided that chicken parmesan with some vegetables and a dessert would be good. She would fix her and Bette some eggs, bacon, fruit and English muffins. She was hungry and she knew Bette would be also. She also knew that she would be ready to eat again at 12:30 or 1:00 with that breakfast.
Angie came into kitchen and told her about the bacon and the laundry situation. She then said that Mama B had suggested a movie in the theatre room for the afternoon. She was going to start her packing. She then hugged her Mama T and told her she loved her. Tina was caught a bit off-guard by the sudden expression of affection. But she was pleased to have it. Then she remembered. In eight days, Angie would be an adult by most social standards. She took a deep breath. She then told Angie how much she loved her and how proud she was of the young lady she was becoming. Angie then left the kitchen.

Deanna,
Thank you for reading and commenting. We have many more chapters of Volume 2 to go. I will be posting at least 2 chapters per week and some chapters are quite long. My goal was to present Bette and Tina and what life would be like in my view if there had been no Gen Q…. This is the summer the family moves to the Los Angeles area… They are in the process of changing professions, changing homes, getting Angie ready for Yale and getting a school for Daniel. The next chapters are where some of their real work begins. Tina and Angie go to New York to get Angie’s wardrobe ready and Bette keeps Daniel and works with him to get him ready for his new school year. This is the first time Bette and Tina have been apart all summer… hope you enjoy this next few chapters.
