Chapter 8 – Packing for New York

Bette came in and saw that Tina was looking a little sad as she started frying the eggs.

Bette:  Angie came to talk to you, didn’t she?

Tina:  Yeah. Then I remember that she will be eighteen in eight days. Where did the time go?

Bette:  You are not losing your daughter. She is just entering the next phase of her life. She will always be our baby. She loves you too, you know. She is going to make us proud.

Tina:  I know. I love her too. And I will get through this. You’ll be right here with me. And we still have Daniel to raise.

Bette:  Yes, we do.  I need to have a game plan for this week so that we get things done for Daniel. Oh, that reminds me.  I was going to see if I could sign both Angie and Dan up for golf lessons for the weeks after Angie’s driving lessons.  I think Angie wants to do this so she can spend some time with Daniel before she goes off to school. I think that they will both enjoy being outdoors and doing something new.

Tina:  And they both begin as rank beginners. Another brilliant thought Babe.

Bette:  We will all go and have them fitted for clubs on Angie’s birthday. Then we can have a family birthday party.  Let’s invite Kit and Sonny and Paris and Jeanette for dinner.

Tina: Maybe we should hold off on giving her the car until after she passes her driving test. What do you think?

Bette:  Let’s think about that. I think that would be best. No sense in having a car that you cannot drive. That may be distracting from her getting through her driving classes. Hopefully by next week she will take her test and have her license. And we can give her the car then. Maybe then it really will be a big surprise. She will think that we have decided not to get her a car until next year.

Tina:  Yep, that is what I would think.

Bette and Tina sat down to their breakfast. The mood had picked up with the discussion about the car. Bette discussed seeing a movie in the theatre room in the afternoon. Tina actually liked the idea. She loved movies and being with the family was where she wanted to be. They would skip their nap this afternoon so they would be ready to sleep on the plane at an earlier hour than their normal routine. Bette would retire early as well.

    1. Deanna,

Thank you for reading and commenting. We have many more chapters of Volume 2 to go. I will be posting at least 2 chapters per week and some chapters are quite long. My goal was to present Bette and Tina and what life would be like in my view if there had been no Gen Q…. This is the summer the family moves to the Los Angeles area… They are in the process of changing professions, changing homes, getting Angie ready for Yale and getting a school for Daniel. The next chapters are where some of their real work begins. Tina and Angie go to New York to get Angie’s wardrobe ready and Bette keeps Daniel and works with him to get him ready for his new school year. This is the first time Bette and Tina have been apart all summer… hope you enjoy this next few chapters.

Thank you for reading and commenting…
