Chapter 8 – Packing for New York

They went over each other’s schedule for the week again. They were satisfied that the week was full with plenty to do. But if things did not accomplish, then they had a few weeks before going back to New York.

After breakfast, Bette cleaned up the kitchen while Tina went upstairs to begin her packing.  After cleaning the kitchen, Bette took both the cars and filled them with fuel.  She then came back and got out her computer to research golf courses and private golf lessons for the kids. Bette found a potential golf pro to give lessons. She immediately sent him an email. To set up a phone conversation for later in the week.

Tina came into the kitchen to start lunch.  She asked Bette to make a decision on her and Daniel’s dinner.  She selected the meatloaf dinner which was plated and ready to microwave.  Tina placed the two plates into the fridge to start the defrost process. Bette volunteered to assist with lunch.

Daniel had been out swimming in the pool during the morning.  Bette notice that he seemed taller than he was the day before out at the beach. And mentioned it to Tina. She just shook her head and told Bette that he couldn’t have grown noticeably overnight.

They finished lunch in short order and called the kids to the table. Bette put the ice tea on the table while Tina served the hot plates of food. Angie and Daniel were thrilled with the chicken parmesan. Bette asked if Angie and Tina had completed their packing.  And both said they were. Bette reminded Tina about the two empty suitcases they needed to take.

Angie wanted to talk about what they were to accomplish while they were in New York. Once lunch was over, she felt like she understood the goals, the process and limited time in which to get things done. She was looking forward to seeing Marilyn again.  She was fond of Marilyn as she too had been a surrogate grandmother as Peggy Peabody had been. Bette reminded Tina to talk to Marilyn about getting a medical power of attorney for Marilyn before Angie went to Connecticut. They would want to register that with the school and any authorities which were appropriate.

    1. Deanna,

Thank you for reading and commenting. We have many more chapters of Volume 2 to go. I will be posting at least 2 chapters per week and some chapters are quite long. My goal was to present Bette and Tina and what life would be like in my view if there had been no Gen Q…. This is the summer the family moves to the Los Angeles area… They are in the process of changing professions, changing homes, getting Angie ready for Yale and getting a school for Daniel. The next chapters are where some of their real work begins. Tina and Angie go to New York to get Angie’s wardrobe ready and Bette keeps Daniel and works with him to get him ready for his new school year. This is the first time Bette and Tina have been apart all summer… hope you enjoy this next few chapters.
