”Excuse me? Mr. Powell?” Bette said softly hoping she wasn’t interrupting.

”Oh Bette. Nice to see you..Please call me Lewis.” Lewis stated as he stepped down from the chair and shook her hand. ”What brings you by? Is everything ok in the apartment?..I’m also the maintenance man right now as mine up and quit on me yesterday so if you have something that needs to be fixed just fill out a work order form outside and drop it in the box”

”Oh? Ok..But everything is fine. I’m actually here to ask you if you have been here long enough to tell me who lived in my apartment say the last 30 years or so” Bette asked cautiously hoping she wasn’t overstepping her bounds.

Lewis chuckled

”I’ve been here since they built it and know every family that has lived in this building and I’m curious as to why you want to know?” Lewis asked wiping his hands off with a rag

”Well I just found something someone left behind and would like to return to the owner if I could” Bette replied shifting her weight from one leg to the other.

”Well as far as I am concerned, if it was left behind then whatever it is technically it is yours..But I’ll tell you who lived there but I couldn’t tell you where to find them now” Lewis replied

Bette nodded and Lewis went to his filing cabinet and pulled out a file listing her apartment number 102. He set the folder on his desk while sitting down in his chair and opened it.

”Ok. This apartment complex was built in 1977 and the first tenant that lived in 102 was Nathan Carter. He lived alone and moved out in 1983. Then Gary and Denise White moved in it in 1983. They moved out in 1988. They had one child Thomas….Bob and Rhonda Toney lived there from 1988-1996. They didn’t have any children. Mrs. Lori Applewhite was the last to live there from 1996-2010. And of course you moved in today.

Bette took in all the information and the only person of interest would be this Lori Applewhite.

”If you don’t mind Mr. Pow-..I mean Lewis. Could you tell me how old Mrs. Applewhite is?” Bette asked nervously
