    Dear Diary—Chapter 1

”She is 76” Lewis answered wondering why Bette was determined to find the owner of whatever it was she had discovered.

Bette nodded her head but still not satisfied with the answers.

”Did she by any chance have any children or grandchildren?” Bette asked

”Uhmm? She had a son but he died in a car accident in 1998. No grandchildren that I know of” Lewis answered and looked at Bette waiting for another question which didn’t come.

Bette now had more questions than answers wondering how this girl’s diary ended up in the attic of her apartment when none of the tenants living there would have warranted the diary being there in the first place.

”Ok. Thanks. I appreciate the information. Unfortunately it really doesn’t help me much” Bette answered disappointedly and turned to walk out the door.

”Sorry I couldn’t be more help to you. If I can do anything else please let me know” Lewis said as he waved at her.

”Thanks” Bette answered and headed back to her apartment.

After unpacking some of her boxes and fixing up her living room and bedroom with her things, she grabbed a towel and headed to the shower. As she let the water run over her to wash the soap away from her tired body, her mind wandered back to her time in high school trying to come up with a face of the person that was writing about her in the diary. She couldn’t and didn’t have a clue. Hopefully reading more would help her piece together the identity of her admirer.

After drying off and putting her robe on she headed to the kitchen and made herself a salad.  Living with Wendy had robbed her of her independence as they had cooks prepare their meals, maids to clean Wendy’s mansion, and drivers on standby to drive them anywhere they wanted to go. Bette suddenly grew angry at herself thinking how she let Wendy control everything. They didn’t enter into their relationship that way but Bette was so in love with her that she gave into her every whim to please her.

”Such an idiot” She berated herself thinking how she became something like a servant for Wendy over the years instead of a partner.
