How Do You Like It?
That had been about a week and a half ago. She found her last gear now to kick her pace up. What on earth was Kaci thinking, ending my escape from Kansas City here in Montana? At any point did she even stop to think that someone of African descent moving out here wouldn’t be the best idea in the world? Did she really think I’d be accepted without protest? In what reality would that be the case? Protest was the mildest version of the resistance I’ve come across. Remember that pack of yahoos who’d run you off the road, and how enraged they were? Rage – their eyes were bugging out, their veins were ready to pop – directed at you. Because of your skin color. Remember? Exactly.
C’mon Kaci. What were you thinking? Were you dug so deeply underground in Kansas City that you’d failed to see what was happening around the country? White supremacists have been on the march, haven’t you heard?! I mean, why couldn’t you end my journey somewhere else? If not SFO, how about LA? Seattle? New York? Even Chicago, if I had to end up somewhere in the middle of the country. Sometimes, I hate you more for flying me out here than for dying on me!
Damn it, Kaci!
(Sigh) Of course I didn’t mean that.
Right now, I can’t help but hate you more for dying on me, though. This was not the plan!
As if on cue, the head yahoo, better known as the “shark” who’d sold the building to her turned the corner into Main Street, heading in the opposite direction from Bette. In the bluish early morning light, Bette could pick out his F150 because of the ugliest rims Bette had ever seen. Even with those abominations, his truck qualified as stylin’ upmarket transport amongst his group. To each his own, I guess.
He sped up when his lights picked up Bette’s silhouette running on the road about 200 yards away, in the opposite direction. It was a silhouette that had become unmistakeable around town, especially to those who liked to watch her. He gunned the engine unnecessarily and came to a screaming stop next to her. She avoided him by coolly adjusting her running stride to hop from the road and onto the farthest edge of the pedestrian sidewalk. Typical jackass move. As if that would frighten her.

Finally Tina is coming to town and will be fierce competition to Lena for the attention of Bette.
But knowing you skydancer and that i believe you wrote in the first chapter that your Tina is or was married to Henry, it will take awhile before they will become a couple.
Skydancer, i really love your style, how you tell your story.
Thanks for the update!
Hi @Bibi,
Thanks!!! I wanted to say I do appreciate your remarks and your good taste ???? (he-he) in giving your thumbs-up to my style.
You’re right, I do like to have the characters move the story along, and to have them find their own reasons to get involved with someone. Yes, it does take time, but the characters can’t be rushed, as you know. I hope you’ll continue to enjoy this one as they take us along in their journey.
Happy Holidays!

Love your polished writing style. You really draw me into what Bette is thinking and feeling. You made the tension between Bette/Jay and Lena quite palpable. Very well done.
As always, great job! Thanks
I’m doing what I can to make it smooth even as I try to understand the issues that are really getting to me as I write, since filtering out the real WTFs — an expanding, worrisome list — is becoming nearly impossible. If it gets a bit much in this book, holler please. Am glad you all are liking things, so far.
Btw— i’m having a hard time writing Lena out, since she’s based on an actual, compelling, woman, so Bette is going to have to struggle, too. Only fair, I think.
Am enjoying your “Runner” series tremendously….even though I was becoming
a bit lost in the opening scenario of investment jargon. I love the way you
have come up with yet another incarnation for Bette and how she meets Tina.
Please post this soon! Can’t wait to see how this triad (Bette-Lena-Tina) plays
out! Thanks for sharing your stories.
Can hardly wait for them to meet, will sparks fly immediately, I certainly hope so. Lena is being intrusive and taking liberties and advantage of the situation . Don’t much care for people like that. Hopefully our Tina will be just about the hottest thing Bette has seen in a long time and vice-versa. Hope Tina and her crew will be spending a lot of time in that hamlet and just push Lena right out of the picture. She will find that she is not the “be all to end all” for Bette. But hopefully Tina will wear that crown real soon. Great update. Thanks for posting.
Meant to include Happy Holidays wishes to you and yours. Thanks again.
Can I just be lazy and say ‘Ditto’ to all the above comments, please!!!
Wishing you a Happy and Healthy New Year and hope you will celebrate 2018 by posting us a new update.
Thanks for your posts, love your stories and the way you write. Looking forward to my favourite couple being together again in your post.
