I Will Not Let You Fall

”FUCK!” Bette yelled in utter frustration. She banged the steering wheel with the heels of her hands. ”FUUUCK!!! AAAAAAAAARRRHHH!!!”

Defeated and angry, Bette breathed hard, her nostrils flaring, eyes wild. She glanced into the side mirror and saw a few patrol cars chasing them in the distance. She put more pressure on the gas pedal. Glancing back at Shane, she only met her closed eyes.

”Shane?! No, don’t you pass out!” Bette shouted and Shane opened her eyes weakly in response. ”You have to talk to me. Don’t you dare fall asleep till we get to the hospital.”

    ”Don’t go…hospital…” Shane wheezed, wincing.

”What?! Are you kidding me, you need emergency medical care!”

”I’ll be fi–ne, get us…get us out of here…” the short-haired woman forced out. ”Arnodelo’s after you… Mark told me…told me that Arnodelo’s people were already searching for you… His people are…they are…”

”This is not important anymore,” Bette said as she outraced a vehicle that was riding next to her and made a sharp turn onto the relatively deserted street. ”I shouldn’t have resisted arrest. But I have and now you’re fucking running out of blood because of me. I’ve dragged you into this shit. You are not going to die because of my craziness, do you hear me? I’m driving you to the hospital, Shane.”

    ”And then what..?”

Bette squeezed her lips together and swallowed. ”We don’t have much choice, do we?” she uttered with a tearful smile, shaking her head. ”Remember I told you last year it’s either a slammer or a grave and you didn’t want to believe me? Well, here you are.”

Shane began to weep just as Bette careened into the hospital driveway which led to the Emergency Room entrance. Stomping on the brakes, Bette jumped out of the car.

”I need a stretcher asap!” she yelled when a frowning orderly stuck her head out the door. Jogging over to the passenger side, Bette flung the door open and bent down to Shane.

”Hey, look at me,” she called out softly, taking a hold of Shane’s face. ”Don’t cry, things will work out, they always do,” Bette comforted.

Distant sounds of wailing police sirens and a helicopter that was hovering somewhere in the sky drifted through the air.

    1. Hi Valerie:

OH, MY GOD, this chapter is amazing, and very hard for me, I needed a cup of tea and cookies to read it, during my lunch break in my job; you made it so real, like watching the movie.

I think that finally, Bette touched bottom I hope she won’t fell farther, and she could start changing things, she needs to think in a wisdomly way; Arnodelo is looking for her, and her only choice is to make a deal with the prosecutor and give away Armodelo and his cartel and gang; she has some money she needs a very good attorney; she has to start thinking about a new begining with Tina, after she pays her bill to society (which I hope will be low, with the help of a lawyer) to the system; anyway, the people she killed were criminal, and she didn’t kill the girl, Miranda, that was killed by Dominic and Arnodelo.
Wow, Valerie, the story is very good, I hope the end would be very good also.

Thank you so much for the wonderful and spine-chilling chapter.

I’ll be anxiously waiting for the next one, pps.

    3. Wow! Thank you for an amazing yet very tearful (for me) chapter! I was hoping beyond hope that Bette was an undercover cop but it doesn’t look like it! Anxiously awaiting for next chapter! By the way you are a great writer!

    4. Hope, Tasha is alive – not to add to all other charges against Bette. Shane is a great friend indeed. And Tina is a bit of a disappointment to me. Maybe she is just too young to fight for her love. So its a big question, who will not let fall whom…
Thanks for the great story! That’s definitely not the end yet, is it?
