Each problem was suggested with increasing amusement in Bette’s voice

Bette suppressed a grin
“Helena – what’s the problem?”
“I have a slight bunion “
“How slightly?”
“A tiny one “
Bette nodded “Tiny enough to stop you wear all of your shoes?”

“Have you been to a chiropodist?”

“Helena!! “

Bette shook her head – Helena could be such a baby
“Okay – I will get you an appointment with my mother’s chiropodist – she is excellent and the sheer size of her boobs will take your mind off what she is doing to your feet “Bette made a note on her “Things to do “pad beside her arm
“Really ?”
“Yes -really “
Bette put her pen back on the desk and looked up at Helena
“And you will go because if you don’t go on your own the next appointment will be just before or after one of my mother’s appointments and she will take no prisoners and she is immune to all your moaning “
“Really! “
Bette closed her PC down “But for now let’s go and find you some shoes – have you considered a nice sensible pair of brogues?”
“BETTE!! “
Bette put her coat on and grabbed her bag
“And for the record you are also paying for lunch “

Bette was irritated – Helena had insisted on trying her usual round of exclusive shoe shops. Unfortunately, she refused to admit to any of the assistants that she had a bunion and trying shoes on in her usual size only made matters worse. So, this was the fifth store they were trying in what had been a tiring 40 minutes
“So, tell me something “Bette said as they walked through the glass doors into another store.
“Yes?”
“How would an organisation go about getting a grant from the famed Peabody Foundation?”
“Galleries don’t qualify “
“Ass – I know they don’t – come on – you can buy me a coffee before we start “
“Okay “
They found the café and Bette went to buy the coffees after Helena complained that her feet were
hurting. When Bette returned, she sat down and looked at her friend
“Tina works at a community centre “
“Does she? “
“Yes – she was telling me that funding is always tight – she’s had to go down to three and a half days a week and there are more threats of cuts “
“What sort of work does she do?”
“Helping people claim benefits, helping with forms, dealing with officials “
Sounds like it might qualify “Helena got her notebook out and pushed it across to Bette
“Give me the details and I’ll get someone to have a look at the place. There might be forms to fill in and maybe a 1000-word proposal but if she’s used to that sort of thing it will be a piece of cake “
“Really? As simple as that?”
Helena smiled “It’s amazing what strings I can pull for the woman who has put such a smile on the face of
my best friend who will put up with me whinging about my eh – foot problem”
Bette smiled “I knew there was a reason I put up with you “
Helena grinned “How is it going – how long has it been now?”
“Nearly three weeks “

That was close! I love Helena’s distraction. Bette should talk to Tina about at least coming out to the Porters. Or maybe both have to face their feelings first and finally admit that they love each other.
As for Emma, with every chapter I like her a little less. Awful how condescending and deprecative she talks to her own daughter.

Jeez Emma, she is a terrible woman and mother, how can you treat your daughter like that! Why does she have to put Tina down at every opportunity?!

I hope to read a chapter after the what i think horrible last episode?! Marja did say in a interview she that if people were mad at her now, they would be even more mad after the last episode.????????????

I do see Tina’s point on not tell mommy dearest yet she’s still worried Bette may not have the deep feelings shes having and end up being yet another means to Emma’s abusive tongue.. but also likes knowing she has Bette all to herself right now. But Bette is having those feeling so much so she wants to tell the world and her parent’s.. this chapter was fun from the sexy bar to home scene to Helena spasming out over her feet trouble. Then the quick play with Emma. Very funny thank you.
That was hilarious….I love that Helena and Tina distracted her mom like they did. Then when Bette pops up in Emma presence, wow…. I just howled. Great impromptu acting for all of them. Great writing. Unlike others, I like Emma – a true alpha lesbian who is use to getting her own way. But I do believe she will let Tina off the hook a bit when she and Bette are finally out to their parents. Tina knows her mother pretty well and knows what presses her buttons. Tina pushes them when she gets a chance and knows the response she is going to get. If Tina is truly disturbed by her mother’s behavior, she would have a meeting with her and tell her to back off. I think Emma would…I think Emma is not aware how degrading she has been. Emma means well, she is just ignorant of what she’s doing.
Tina really needs to take a few hours and do some soul searching. How does she really feel about Bette? Then she needs to tell Bette how she feels. I believe Bette is ready for that conversation. It’s been three weeks – they need to at least agree they are girlfriends and want exclusivity with each other. Of course they haven’t had time to think about someone other than each other.
