The benefit was in full swing – the auction was going very well. Bette had bought a couple of items as had most of Rosemary Porter’s table. Bette’s attention was on the next item that was up for auction – a brand new iphone – she wanted it for Tina. The bidding started at $30 and Bette confidently upped the bid to $40. Helena waved her hand and stood up

There was a murmur around the room followed by a round of applause. Helena gestured gracefully and waited to see if anyone was insane enough to try and top her.

Bette glowered at Helena and sank back in her seat. She was a little drunk, Tina had not returned her text and now her millionaire best friend had outbid her on a gift that she wanted for Tina.
Bette slipped out of her seat and went to the toilet and then to the bar for a shot of whiskey. On her way back Helena came towards her.
“When you go to pay for the items you bought there will be another item there for you”

“A brand new I-phone that you can give to your girlfriend. Do you really think I wanted it for myself – darling you know I have four different phones. I knew that if you bid for it you would have some explanation to your mother and Emma. And I could see that you were ogling it and wanting it for your woman “
