Bette shook herself awake and gently kissed Tina again
“You okay ?”

Tina nodded “It still all feels unreal – that last night happened the way it did “

Bette nodded “I know “

The arrival of their sandwiches and coffee brought them both down to earth.
“What are you reading ? “ Bette asked
Tina showed Bette the title “ Gerri Hill – I didn’t know she had a new one out and I just went across to look at the new titles because I your mom was watching me”
“And you escaped with just one book ?” Bette said
Tina lifted her bag up and showed Bette that she’d come out after borrowing five books. Bette laughed
“Girl after my own heart or a cunning ruse to foil my mother ?”

“It started as the later and ended up the former “

“Lets have a look at them then “ Bette said interested to see what Tina had borrowed. Tina handed her the bag over and Bette looked at the titles. When Bette handed the bag back there was a look in her eyes that Tina hadn’t seen before. She was still nervous of trying to interpret the brunette’s thoughts but it was clear that a new thought was going through her head – Tina wasn’t sure if that was a good or bad thing. Little did she know that if she could have read Bette’s thoughts she would have been very happy indeed.

Chapter 20
Bette was not going to be caught short like she felt she had the night before. She made sure that she got home early with all the shopping that she would need for an evening with Tina. She put the white wine in the fridge and got the dining table arranged before going upstairs to change the sheets on her bed and take a long hot bath. She was dressed in figure hugging wrangler jeans and a black silk blouse – she looked casual but smart as she got on with chopping the ingredients for the stir-fry she was planning.
Ten minutes before the agreed time that Tina was due to arrive she knocked at the door. Bette ran from the sitting room where she had been picking the right music for the evening and opened the front door. It was raining so Tina was sheltering under a huge black umbrella.
“Quick – get inside “
Tina took a step inside and shook the umbrella as she closed it. Bette took the umbrella and dropped it into a stand where she kept her umbrellas. Tina removed the huge padded jacket she was wearing to reveal that she was also wearing jeans and a pretty gray cashmere sweater. She waved a carrier bag at Bette
“Ice- cream – I brought several flavours “
“Thanks you – here – let me take your coat “
Bette hung Tina’s jacket up in the hall and they stood looking at each other for a few minutes
“Ice cream ?” Tina said
“Yeah – ice cream – come on through to the kitchen “
Tina followed the brunette through and glanced around. There was a wok on the top of the oven and on a work unit were chopped mushrooms, onions, red peppers and bean sprouts. Bette took the bag from Tina and took the ice cream out and put the three tubs into the 7ft high fridge freezer. She dropped the bag into a box that held other carrier bags and looked at the blonde
“Okay now we can either have prawns or chicken – I have prepared both – which do you fancy ?”
“Oh prawns – love prawns “
