    LENOX HILL HOSPITAL-6

    ”Angelica?” Bette asked

”Everything’s ok…she didn’t notice anything…Monica told her that I left home early this morning ..” Tina winked at Bette.

”She’ll make you pay for everything when she’s older” Bette laughed as she tried to get up and Tina ran to her

    ”Where are you going?”

”Pee.” Bette smiled ”You have to do it or I’ll die Tina …”

”Oh ” Tina exclaimed ”ok…but come on I’ll help you …” Tina held out her hand to Bette who leaned on it moaning from the pain in her back, she had been with a high fever and in bed a lot for almost a whole day ”ok I’m here” Bette whispered, gripping the blonde’s hand better.

Tina carried her to the bathroom door and then gave Bette her privacy, in the meantime the nurses had brought Bwtte a breakfast and Tina asked Andrew to bring her a coffee and some yogurt for her too. When Bette came out of the bathroom she got to the table alone without help and Tina was very happy, they ate together, Bette ate less than Tina but she was happy that the fever seemed to have gone at least for now and it was important that Bette put something in her stomach.

”will you bring me Angie again?” Bette asked fearing the answer.

Tina bit her lip, she knew that Bette liked spending time with Angelica and vice versa, but she cared more about her health ”as soon as you recover…”

Bette tilted her head sighing ”is that what you tell the patients?”

”no Bette…if you want I promise, as soon as you get better you will see her, she will ask to come here too…but you are sickly and I am already here to bring you many germs”

”or to bring me happiness…” This statement took Tina by surprise but Shane burst into the room ”hey Bette, you look better huh?”

The spell between the two broke, Bette greeted her friend warmly and turned her attention away from the blonde who remained staring at her, the way Bette gestured, the light smile, the little rhinestones in her ears, Tina was taken.

”Oh by the way Tina I met Helena she told me to tell you she wants you in her office before shift…” Shane said

    1. And that is the reason that the patient always has the final say…. Bette is the one facing a life of being restricted to a room or a bed for the rest of her life. Bette is the one who will face her future whatever that is, not Tina, and not Peggy and not Helena. Bette is an educated physician, and she can read and evaluate the data just for herself. She knows the odds of success or of failure. She knows her own condition… she lives with it every day. In the end she needs to choose between a life as it now exists or the option to possibly overcome that with surgery.

In reality, Tina has no right to interject her opinion. She may love Bette, but there will be no life with Bette as long as she is in her current condition. A solid relationship is not based on daily visits or bringing her child to visit. That assist Bette in dealing with her life, but it is nothing more than friendship for Tina. There is no opportunity to really know who Bette is in this situation. There will be no shared future unless Bette is cured of her heart problems. And that is truly up to Bette.
