Love in Control – Chapter II – Savannah (Part 2)

“Propaganda: an exhibit that answers why museums are and will continue to be relevant.”

The audience rose as one to give Rian a thunderous applause.

Bette heard people exclaiming in the row behind her: “Where in the hell is that painting now … Brussels did she say?”; “I’m booking tickets to wherever that blasted exhibit is going to be held;” and, “Damn that was great!”

Cade joined in the appreciative whistling from the students.

From the row behind Bette, Mark tapped on the brunette’s shoulder and bent closer to Bette’s ear. “I bet if someone gave another period in history apart from late 18th century France she’d be able to conjure up another example, am I right?”

Bette nodded, smiling broadly, still clapping. Members of the Board and other donors were joining students, shouting, “More, more! More!”

Cade elbowed Bette’s arm, and turned to her, declaring, “Beauty and brains. I’m officially in love.”

“So I win?” Bette asked, teasingly.

“You win … but I win, too!”

    “What?!”

He winked at her, and as Rian asked everyone to retake their seats, announcing she would take a couple more questions, “and then I will have to wrap this up, I’m afraid,” he whispered, “I thought of a way to get you a lot of face time with my chief. But it will have to involve Rian. Because we have to make several things fit in … if you still want to make that flight back to New York later tonight.”

Bette frowned at Cade. She whispered back, “what are you planning mister?”

“The charity golf tournament: it kicked off already. But I could add you and Rian for the afternoon pairings. You pair with my chief and you can talk over 18 holes of golf. I can pair with Rian.”

    “Wha-a-a-t-t?!”

“I don’t even know if she plays!”

Mark leaned forward and stuck his head between them. “You two will have to be quiet or we’ll get the sexy teacher to kick you out! Some of us are trying to learn something here!”

Cade playfully motioned that he would zip his lips as Bette sat back, frustrated. Rian was shooting her glances also, but smiling at the same time.

Later, after the lecture finally wrapped up, as she slowly slowly made her way to the double-doors that led out to the main hall of the building out of orchestra section of the auditorium, Rian finished answering the questions posed to her by a large group of students who’d stuck around after she finished a quick chat with a few members of the Board and the dean and some of the faculty. She spied Bette and Aerin, chatting and laughing about something as they waited for her in the main hall.

    1. So pleased to read your story!

I don’t care that it isn’t a traditional Bette and Tina story line, but i wouldn’t mind if you give them more time in it ;-)

That was such a heart warming talk between Jade and Rian’s mom.

      Thanks for the update!

    2. It was a little early for my Pinot Noir, but well worth it, as it perfectly paired with your story. In fact, all of your stories are a full-spectrum sensory experience for me. Like a good glass of wine, I get lost in the color, bathe in the aroma, and relish the taste and texture of your scenes. Your give your protagonist characters a rich personality that I can’t help but instantly root for. While Bette and Tina initially drew me this this site and your stories, I really enjoy your other characters just as much.

Aerin virtually stole the words out of my mouth. If I had a professor like Rian during my undergraduate years, perhaps I would have gotten better than a C+ in my Art History class. I may have even been persuaded to change majors with such impassioned lectures.

As I was reading the dialogue between Jade and Rian’s mom, I was thinking that’s the type of mom I wish we had and we all would become. Well done.

    3. I normally am only interested in Bette and Tina stories, but not with this one im loving all your characters , and story lines, i can”t wait to read more. Thank you

      • Thanks for all your comments don70! Am glad you and others enjoy reading about these characters and am happy you find the different storylines they inhabit interesting. Please do continue to let me know your thoughts as this story progresses – based on actual places and people – as we explore what it means to love, and be stripped bare even if fully-clothed, before another.

    4. Genuine art has the power to strengthen the spirit of the people.
I loved Rian lecture, I applaud the end of the lecture.
And please do not let Tina looks at this Kaci, from what I read,
      I realized, it will happen.
      The complete constellation.
