The doorbell rang again. FU*&^%$K! Jade cursed aloud. She slammed the Tiffany & Co. white holiday brochure that had been mailed to her on the flat top of the high chest. She was agitated as it was, plus she felt like peeing. And who the fuck could that be anyway?! I’m running late as it is, and this blasted high chest is playing keep-away with my sunglasses again. Why couldn’t we just have a simple table and tray out here, anyway? Something to toss all our stuff on when we get home? That’s all we need here, right? But nooo…. Rian has to get this thing that keeps hiding my stuff. She never loses her things, of course. This high chest plays nice with Rian. But not with me.
After the doorbell rang a third time, Jade slammed the drawer shut in frustration and cursed aloud again. The Tiffany & Co. brochure fell on the floor, unnoticed, as she stomped to the door, prepared to blast whoever it was that was making her even more agitated with all this doorbell ringing.
“YES!!! I’m here ….” she barked, irritated as she yanked the door open.
Sky-blue eyes greeted hers with surprise, and the elegant woman with steel-grey hair styled in a fashionable chignon took several steps back when she saw Jade yank the door open forcefully and then take an aggressive step forward, red-faced.
“Jade!” the woman gasped.
“Mrs. Nolan … oh, I meant, Mom!”
“That’s right, call me “Mom,” Jade,” the woman gently admonished the tall blonde with a warm smile. She opened her arms and took a step towards Jade.
All of Jade’s earlier irritation evaporated in an instant and, still shocked about seeing Rian’s mother at their front door, a surprised Jade bent forward to hug the beautifully older woman. “I’m sorry I barked at you just then,” she apologized, as Rian’s mother’s hug lengthened. Jade feels very fit and seems to have gained even more muscle definition on her back.
She released Jade from the hug all of a sudden. “Jade Wetmore. You’re just in a tank top! In this weather? Let’s step inside and talk there…”
Jade grinned at Hyacinthe. “Two tank tops, but …”
She interrupted Rian’s mom’s response. “Let me get your things, Mom.” She gently extracted the leather-trimmed purple Longchamp travel bag slung on Hyacinthe’s forearm, and reached out to pull her rollerbag. She followed Hyacinthe into the house and then pulled the door shut behind her.

I don’t care that it isn’t a traditional Bette and Tina story line, but i wouldn’t mind if you give them more time in it ;-)

It was a little early for my Pinot Noir, but well worth it, as it perfectly paired with your story. In fact, all of your stories are a full-spectrum sensory experience for me. Like a good glass of wine, I get lost in the color, bathe in the aroma, and relish the taste and texture of your scenes. Your give your protagonist characters a rich personality that I can’t help but instantly root for. While Bette and Tina initially drew me this this site and your stories, I really enjoy your other characters just as much.
Aerin virtually stole the words out of my mouth. If I had a professor like Rian during my undergraduate years, perhaps I would have gotten better than a C+ in my Art History class. I may have even been persuaded to change majors with such impassioned lectures.
As I was reading the dialogue between Jade and Rian’s mom, I was thinking that’s the type of mom I wish we had and we all would become. Well done.
Enjoyed it. Thought TJ was headed for a bad fall. Who’s this Kaci? No drama for Bette and Tina please. Thanks
