    Music Is My Savior

“We can only hope” Bette smiled softly as both she and her wife watched Angie sleep for a few moments more.

The house was quiet, making it that much easier to hear the sound of a fussy baby from down the hall.

“And that will be our other child” Tina smiled, placing a hand on Bette’s shoulder as her wife rose to stand. “It’s okay, I’ll check on him”

Bette lingered in Angie’s room for a while longer, wanting to make sure her daughter was really free of any nightmares for the remainder of the night. When she was convinced, she leaned down to place a tender kiss on Angie’s head before carefully rising from the bed. She had nearly made it out of the room before a soft, sleepy voice broke the silence, stopping her dead in her tracks.

    “Momma?”

Bette turned around to the figure in the dark, Angie’s half lidded brown eyes sparkling in the moonlight.

“Can you turn on the nightlight please?”

Bette smiled at the question, thankful that such an innocent act was still being requested. Angie was already getting so big.

    “Of course, sweetie”

Bette walked over to the nightstand beside her daughter’s bed just as Angie’s eyes began to flutter close. She flicked the switch beside the round black lamp, squinting her eyes as the multiple tiny lights filled the dark room. She stood back and glanced up as the lights danced on the ceiling, each shaped like stars as they twinkled in the night’s sky.

She looked back to Angie and saw that the little girl had fallen back asleep, another smile spreading across her face. She took a moment to absorb the sight, knowing that one day the little girl fast asleep on the bed wouldn’t be so little. Angie was getting older and Bette was determined to treasure each day as much as she could.

Thank you and look for ward to your next story.

    3. Why am I such an emotional person? I swear I cried through this entire story. Happy tears, of course. I’m happy Bette and Tina still have a love that’s so strong. Even after so much time has passed. Whew, then the emotional roller coaster of Angie growing up. I don’t have a kids or a partner yet, but I’m sure her and I will go through some of these same feelings. I felt transported into the story. I guess that’s the beauty of storytelling. Plus, a great author.
