Music Is My Savior
Never grow up
“Happy birthday dear Malcolm, happy birthday to you!”
The room erupted in cheers as little Malcolm Porter-Kennard blew out his giant number “5” birthday candle, his two loving mothers on either side of him.
Angie watched from a distance, surrounded by family and friends as she clapped for her younger brother.
“Your brother is too cute” Gina, one of Angie’s school friends smiled as she took in the sight of the youngest member of the Porter-Kennard clan.
Angie glanced at her friend with a hint of disgust and disbelief. Not only was he younger than they were by 6 1/2 years but he was also Angie’s brother so ew. She was at that age where “cute” was only used to show attraction in boys so for the life of her, Angie couldn’t see what her friend saw.
She took a moment to examine her pain in the ass little brother, noting the similarities and differences between them both.
They shared the same curly hair and that soft caramel skin tone, their smiles exact copies of their Momma T. The only visible difference between them were their eyes, where Angie’s were chocolate brown and Malcolm’s were hazel.
On the outside it was easy to tell that they were related but on the inside, Angie swore her brother had to have come from another planet.
While she was calm, focused and often told wise beyond her years, Malcolm was hyper and wild. He was by no means any less smart that Angie was but his more-action-than-talk personality often got him into trouble. Or Angie for that matter.
“Yeah” Kate, another friend agreed with a nod of her head. “Makes me want a little brother”
“Trust me, you don’t” Angie pursed her lips with the knowledge that her little brother could be quite the terror.
Sure he appeared innocent from afar but Angie knew better than anyone that looks could be awfully deceiving. He recently mastered their Momma B’s pout and had been using it to its full advantage. Angie had just been released from her latest punishment only the other day, her brother’s mischief the reason behind it.
“Aw, come on” Gina laughed at the annoyed look on Angie’s face. “He can’t be that bad”

Why am I such an emotional person? I swear I cried through this entire story. Happy tears, of course. I’m happy Bette and Tina still have a love that’s so strong. Even after so much time has passed. Whew, then the emotional roller coaster of Angie growing up. I don’t have a kids or a partner yet, but I’m sure her and I will go through some of these same feelings. I felt transported into the story. I guess that’s the beauty of storytelling. Plus, a great author.
Lovely.
Thank you!
Beautiful story. Little teary in some part, and it’s great!
Looking forward for your next story!
