Music Is My Savior
Though a part of her was still a little bitter towards her little brother for letting her take the fall for something that she just so happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time for, Angie couldn’t deny that she loved the little monster (not that she would admit it out loud). The feeling was mutual of that Angie had no doubt, her mind flooding with a memory of the day that Mal threw large clumps of mud in the faces of two boys that had been bothering her. They got on each other’s nerves and cared for one another at the same time. A typical love/hate sibling relationship.
Angie watched as her Momma T tapped her brother’s small nose with a bit of cake frosting, earning a laugh from him. Momma B did the same to his cheek and the three of them laughed happily as a series of pictures were taken. Angie crossed her arms, pushing down the wave of jealousy that coursed through her. It was her brother’s special day and she tried to remind herself of that, knowing deep down that her mothers didn’t love her any less no matter the attention Malcolm was currently receiving.
Bette’s jaw dropped in surprise as Malcolm managed to swipe her cheek with a streak of cake frosting and playfully growled at her son. He screamed and jumped down from the stool he had occupied, running towards the recliner in living room and grabbing his two plastic lightsabers that rested there.
“You will never defeat me Luke Skywalker” Malcolm placed a hand over his mouth and disguised his voice to resemble his favorite villain in his favorite movie. He turned around and tossed a lightsaber to Bette and pressed the button on his own, watching as the clear plastic turned a bright red.
“We’ll see about that” Bette used her best hero voice and turned on her own lightsaber, readying herself for a fierce battle.
The entire birthday party watched as the two engaged in one of the most nail biting battles they had ever seen, cheering or taking pictures from afar. Everyone gasped as Bette swiped at her son’s stomach and Malcolm feigned pain, wrapping his free arm across the area. He made a turn to run but Bette was quick on his heels.

Why am I such an emotional person? I swear I cried through this entire story. Happy tears, of course. I’m happy Bette and Tina still have a love that’s so strong. Even after so much time has passed. Whew, then the emotional roller coaster of Angie growing up. I don’t have a kids or a partner yet, but I’m sure her and I will go through some of these same feelings. I felt transported into the story. I guess that’s the beauty of storytelling. Plus, a great author.
Lovely.
Thank you!
Beautiful story. Little teary in some part, and it’s great!
Looking forward for your next story!
