Bette put her cup down and once again she looked into Tina’s eyes.

“Yes, I want us to be friends too………….”

Tina locked eyes with Bette and this time she saw love and and a softness that gave her a warm feeling. She could feel her tears coming up. She had to hold back not to kiss Bette on her lips. So she turned and kissed Bette on her cheek.
Bette looked surprised but she accepted the kiss.

“Thank you for giving me the chance to be your friend.” Bette said.

“No, thank you to be my friend.” Tina replied.

The women hugged and enjoyed the moment of holding each other. Then Tina’s eyes came across the clock. It was almost ten. She had to leave but she didn’t want to. Reluctantly, she let go of Bette.

“Hey Bette, I got to go. Tomorrow is another day of work. Also for you. And it’s some stroll back home.”

“I can walk you home, but you could stay here if you want to……….”

Tina looked at Bette. This was a very tempting offer. She hesitated for a moment but she declined. Bette was a little disappointed but she understood. What was she thinking of asking Tina to spend the night.

“Okay, I’ll walk you home.”

“You don’t need to.”

“Yes, I will. We’re friends now and I don’t want anything to happen to you, so I’ll walk you home. Besides, I can defend myself. I had boxing classes and also selfdefense classes. So I’m okay.”

“Cool, I feel safe already.”

Bette put on her jacket, took her keys and hold the door for Tina. They walked with linked arms to Tina’s house. Once again that day Bette laughed her butt off. Tina was so funny and she had a funny way of telling stories about what happened in the store. In no time they arrived at her place. Both women had the feeling that the walk went by too fast. They regretted that they arrived at Tina’s house.

“Would you like a nightcap?”

“That’s very tempting, Tee. Don’t be offended but I’m going to decline. You see…………and that’s when Bette stood up closer to Tina………..you see, You holding me, me feeling you so close to me. Me smelling you, it drives me crazy. So if I would come for a nightcap, I might not leave………..”

Bette stood very close to Tina and her lips could almost touch hers. She couldn’t hold it up any more. She gave Tina the most tender kiss on her lips.
Tina lost it. Her knees almost gave in but she managed to stand up straight. She kissed Bette back. But as sudden and soft as Bette kissed her, so fast she let go.

“Sleep tight, Tee.” She winked, turned and walked away.
