Bette looked at Tina and she looked her in the eyes. She wanted to kiss Tina so bad but she didn’t dare to do that. So she told Tina that she was wrong, her dream wasn’t right. At least the part that she didn’t love Tina.

“I hope you believe me when I say that I do love you. And for what it’s worth, I do like women. I dated a woman before I came here.”

“Really?”

“Yes, I did.”

“You broke up…..?”

“Sort off.” Bette was thinking real hard. This was the cue to start telling Tina something about her past. Should she start with the worst part of her life? She wished she had talked about this with Shane. Shane surely would have given her advise about what to say. Well, what the hell…….

“To be honest, she died. She died of an overdosis drugs. Before I tell you my story I want you to know one thing. If you don’t want to be friends with me after you’ve heard my story, I won’t blame you.”

“Let me be the judge of that, Bette. Nothing can be that bad to put what I feel for you on the line.”

“Thank you,” Bette wispered.

Bette told Tina what happened to her in the past five years. She left out a lot but she couldn’t leave out the part with Kelly. She told Tina about that last devastating day and how it made her want to quit using drugs. Tina listened and didn’t interrupted or judged Bette. Bette really appreciated that because she didn’t know if she would be able to finish telling her story if Tina had interrupted her.
When she did finished, Tina was quiet. Bette took the quietness in the wrong way. So she stood up and walked into the kitchen to get herself some more tea. When she turned around to walk back, she bumped into Tina.

“Hey, I don’t care what you did. You getting your life back on track and I admire that. In fact, I think that is a very brave thing to do. You could’ve start using more drugs because of the death of your friend. But instead, you took her death as a wake-up call. You need courage to do that. No, I’m not giving up on our friendship. I want to be your friend, Bette.”
