The room they had was decked out in red and white flowers and looked very grand. Bette chuckled as she saw Angie and James daughter Martha standing together staring open mouthed at the grandeur of everything
“Do you not take your daughter to places like this all the time James?” Bette asked looking at her assistant
“She is more into Pizza Hut “
“So is Angie “
“Don’t worry – there is a special menu for the girls – ours is more sophisticated but I know what kids are like – rich alien food will have them throwing up in the very expensive plant pots
“Thanks Bette “
“Well given what chaos Angie has already caused today I don’t want her to start off again”
“Sheba will be devastated “
“Sheba was looking forward to having the place to herself – lots of places she likes to hide have been off limits since Tina’s folks arrive “
“We are under pressure to get Martha a cat as well “
“I recommend it – if you want to be demoted even lower down the pecking order in your house “
“We might go down the cat shelter in a few days “
“Well don’t wait too long – there might not be any left after tomorrow “
The food was every bit as glorious as it said it was and there were little mini dishes for Angie and Martha – little pizzas and fish in breadcrumbs. Shane stood up when the alcoholic and no-alcoholic cocktails had been distributed
“I was honoured and moved to be asked by Bette and Tina to say a few words today. I am not used to speaking like this and I have had several sleepless nights trying to find the words. I meet Bette and Tina when I was in my early 20’s – I had never known what a real family was because I had been in and out of care since I was 6. They became my family – they fed me – they made sure I got home when I had taken things I shouldn’t have had. They made sure I wasn’t alone – even when I didn’t want to be with anyone. They have been two big sisters to me for a long time and I know what a great couple they are – I know strong they are and despite all the problems that kept them apart this day was inevitable because love like they have – its special. I can only hope that one day I meet my soul mate like Bette did at her gallery when Tina lost her earring “
“What happened?” Angie wanted to know
“I will tell you one day “Tina replied chuckling
“So can you all raise your glasses to the couple who defied the odds and are at the start of a long and happy life together – Bette Porter and Tina Kennard “

Thank you for finishing this part of the story. Seems as if the story could handle a sequel if you’re so inclined. I was reading “Running on Sunshine” and it is quite excellent. Maybe write more for that story?

It has taken me several days to read this book and its many chapters. I want to say that I love your Bette and Tina. I am thrilled to read a story in which these two women mature in their relationship and in their lives. I love how you have them teach each other how to communicate and how essential it is for their relationship. I am also impressed on how you present the aspect that the group was far to involved with each other’s lives to be healthy. Alice simply had no boundaries. I think Shane did and maybe even Dana did. Jenny was just crazy and Alice took no responsibility for her own actions and decisions. The biggest surprise was Kit. I guess that is what happens when you allow addictions to control your life.
This was a wonderful story and well written. I have really enjoyed it from front to back. I believe that Tina still has a bit more maturing to do but in time with Bette’s help she will get there. New York is truly a wonderful place for this family. Thank You for sharing this….I look forward to reading your other writings in the near future.
