“So how do you like married life Mrs Porter ?” Bette asked Tina as they lay on the sofa with their feet up
“I like it fine – what about you Mrs Kennard?”
“It is early days but I think it will agree with me “
“Just as well”
Bette closed her eyes “ Just listen to that silence “
“You know it won’t last?”
“I do – where is the big cat hunter?”
“She actually decided that she wanted to just lie and listen to one of her audiobooks “
“Thank god for audiobooks “
“I know “
Tina’s mobile sounded and she picked it up “My folks have arrived home safely after a wonderful few days “
“Well they better not think we go as mad every year – Christmas, wedding, Angie’s 6th and a new feline in less than 5days “
“They know and it means so much to then that they were a part of it “
“They deserve some happy memories – what with having one fruit cake sister and all”
“I know “Tina said “It’s a relief I can tell you “
“I know – I am glad she is out of the way – may she stay that way for a very long time”
“Look who has just appeared “Tina said looking up from her phone.
The jet black cat who they had adopted the day before had quickly made herself at home.
“Do we have a name yet?” Bette asked looking at the elegant cat
“There is a shortlist “
“Do I get a say in this?”
“What do you think?”
Bette laughed and smiled as the new cat strolled across to them and jumped up and sat on Tina’s lap
“What I don’t get is that I RESCUE these cats and they take to you “
“Are you jealous?” Tina chuckled
“Not as much as someone else is”
Sheba had come into the living room via the kitchen and was watching as Tina stroked the new cat.
“Now that cat is not happy “
“Sheba obviously didn’t get the messages from Angelica “
Tina laughed “I did say that you should have had a word – as the head of the household and all that”
“Since when? “Bette replied good naturedly “I lost control the day you arrived with Miss Angie – since then I just relegated further and further down. there is a spider in the hall closet who gets more of a say in things than me “
“But it’s a strong woman who can give up power babe “Tina was greatly enjoying the conversation. Bette opened her mouth to reply but her phone rang and she picked it up and immediately got up and left the room with it.
“So black cat – do you think that is good or bad news?” Tina said rubbing the newest occupant of the apartment’s ear
Tina was just starting to doze off when Angie got onto the sofa with her
“I thought you were listening to your book?”
“I am hungry “she stroked the cat
“Yes – it is well beyond lunch time – we will wait until Bette comes back and we will decide what we want – are you okay sweetie ?”
“It’s been the best few days “
“It has been – what did you like the best?”
“The wedding – it was so cool “
“It was lovely – and you looked so sweet “
“You and mommy looked lovely “
Tina rubbed her daughter’s hair “I think it was an amazing few days but we all go back to work and school on Monday “
Bette came back grinning – Tina recognised the smile – she had pulled some deal off
“I was about to start on lunch – do you want to help me Bette ?”
“Certainly my sweet – hello Angie darling – are you okay?”
“Yes – can I watch TV ?”
“If you want “
Bette followed Tina into the kitchen – as soon as they were alone she took hold of her and hugged her
“I am so happy”
“What has happened?” Tina wanted to know
“Kit is out of danger – she is much better and she’s signed the deal to get out of the café. As of a few hours ago its mine “
“That’s wonderful – have you thought about a manager for the place?”
“Shanes friend Lisa is very impressive and I have decided to give her six months to see how she gets on”
“That’s brilliant “
“I just rang her with a couple of instructions “
“Oh yeah – what are they ?”
Bette laughed “Call me petty but my first act as sole owner of MY café has been to ban Jenny and Alice for life “

Thank you for finishing this part of the story. Seems as if the story could handle a sequel if you’re so inclined. I was reading “Running on Sunshine” and it is quite excellent. Maybe write more for that story?

It has taken me several days to read this book and its many chapters. I want to say that I love your Bette and Tina. I am thrilled to read a story in which these two women mature in their relationship and in their lives. I love how you have them teach each other how to communicate and how essential it is for their relationship. I am also impressed on how you present the aspect that the group was far to involved with each other’s lives to be healthy. Alice simply had no boundaries. I think Shane did and maybe even Dana did. Jenny was just crazy and Alice took no responsibility for her own actions and decisions. The biggest surprise was Kit. I guess that is what happens when you allow addictions to control your life.
This was a wonderful story and well written. I have really enjoyed it from front to back. I believe that Tina still has a bit more maturing to do but in time with Bette’s help she will get there. New York is truly a wonderful place for this family. Thank You for sharing this….I look forward to reading your other writings in the near future.
