CHAPTER 113
“This is really nice “Bette was resting with her head in Tina’s lap. The day off was going well – they had finished their Christmas shopping and after lunch together they had come home to an empty apartment for some quality time – and they had extra quality time because Shane was picking Angie up from school and taking her shopping.
Tina briefly stopped toying with Bette’s long hair
“It is – we don’t do this enough “
“We don’t have time to do this “
“I know – but we should try and make more adult time “
“I know that as well “Bette closed her eyes and sighed “We really should “
“Looking forward to next week?” Tina asked
“Christmas, the wedding or someone’s birthday?”
“It is an awful lot to cram into seven days “
“It is “Bette agreed sleepily
“You didn’t mention the cat “
“I didn’t think it was worth mentioning the main event “
Tina laughed and kissed Bette’s hair “I don’t think that and neither do you “
“Yeah “Bette said yawning “But the Princess does “
“She is pretty excited about us getting married – she has been talking about it one and off for months – since we got together it seems “
Bette yawned again
“Are you okay?” Tina asked
Bette was silent for a few minutes “Yeah – sure “
Tina knew enough about both girls in her life to know when the big little girl needed to be left alone to sleep quietly. She snuggled closer to her and relaxed just enjoying having Bette so close and so obviously content. After several minutes she knew Bette had fallen asleep so Tina relaxed and thanked every possible deity for the chain of events that had brought Bette back into her life and made all three of them so happy.
It was almost 6pm when the front door opened and Angie burst into the apartment with Shane in tow. Bette had been reading emails for half an hour while Tina took a hot bath. Bette grinned at her friend – this was a new style for Shane. Instead of shorts and thin – almost see through shirts the New York winter had seen Shane in a whole new wardrobe. She was wearing black jeans, a massive knitted sweater and a second hand corduroy black jacket – the look suited her.
“Hey sweetie – did you behave for Shane “
“Of course I did “Angie replied grinning
“Why is she grinning Shane?”
“No reason”
“Why are you grinning Angelica?” Bette asked
“No reason “– this time her grin got bigger
Bette knew there was a reason – she just wasn’t sure if she should be pushing it
“Where’s mommy?”
“Bathroom”
“I am going to see her “Angie looked at Shane and they smiled. Shane handed one of the bags she was carrying to Angie
“Let her have some space “Bette said
“I just want to talk to her “Angie protested
Bette looked at Shane who nodded
“Okay – go on “
Angie ran off.
“Are you concluding with her ?”
“Yes “
“Anything I need to know about ?”
“No – trust me “
“You know I do – has she been good ?”
“Yes “
“You want to sit down “
“Thanks “
Shane put her bags on the sofa and sat down “You know I remember her when she had about four words in her vocabulary and she said them over and over again – man she has grown up so much “
“When she arrived with Tina she was pretty speechless and taken aback by everything – especially the dinosaurs but she has just taken everything and I mean everything in her stride ever since”
“She is looking forward to next week “
“The cat or Christmas ?”
“The wedding – she wants to see you guys married so much”
“I know – we were just saying how she’s wanted us to get married for so long “
“She’s a smart kid – she’s seen Tina go through a lot of pain. The relationship with Helena wasn’t good for either of them – this is right for all of you. She might not know how she knows but she just does “
Bette nodded “Have you heard anything from LA ?”
“Kit is pretty ill – you know that of course – Alice called me last night “
Bette raised an eyebrow “That’s not usual is it ?”
“No – – she only texts when she wants to abuse me. Last night – last night she seemed pretty upset – she talked about all the times Kit lied to her and Jenny and said she wasn’t drinking and wasn’t taking drugs. She just kept saying she had believed her time and time again”
Bette wasn’t in the mood to be kind about Alice. She pulled a face
“Does she know anything new about Kit ?”
“She said Roger was back and she wanted to know if you had given him the money to help Kit. Apparently she asked him and he wouldn’t talk about it “
“If Roger tells Alice – – Kit will find out when and if she gets better. Kit will blow a fuse if she thinks I am behind the sale of the café. So I agreed with Roger that the story is going to be that I am the baddie and wouldn’t give him any money so the only option they had left was to sell the café”
“Will it work ?”
“It has to – and for it to work Alice and Jenny are not to find out about this or Kit will find out – you know Alice – you know she cannot spell the word secrets let alone keep any “
“And what if Kit finds out somewhere down the line – I am not saying you are wrong Bette – and I don’t blame you but one-day Kit will find out “

It has taken me several days to read this book and its many chapters. I want to say that I love your Bette and Tina. I am thrilled to read a story in which these two women mature in their relationship and in their lives. I love how you have them teach each other how to communicate and how essential it is for their relationship. I am also impressed on how you present the aspect that the group was far to involved with each other’s lives to be healthy. Alice simply had no boundaries. I think Shane did and maybe even Dana did. Jenny was just crazy and Alice took no responsibility for her own actions and decisions. The biggest surprise was Kit. I guess that is what happens when you allow addictions to control your life.
This was a wonderful story and well written. I have really enjoyed it from front to back. I believe that Tina still has a bit more maturing to do but in time with Bette’s help she will get there. New York is truly a wonderful place for this family. Thank You for sharing this….I look forward to reading your other writings in the near future.
