Ten minutes later Bette came back and joined Tina again
“Everything okay?”
“He loved the idea – something about wanting to go somewhere with Vicky – you have me to yourself”
Tina beamed “Thank you “
“Did you think I would say no?”
“You are very busy “
“And I told you being busy was not going to get in the way of us – I meant that “
“Thanks again”
Bette sighed “I was just thinking earlier “
“What?”
“How insane we both were before we got married the last time “
Tina nodded “I had a major film that was 10 weeks behind schedule – you had just moved your gallery to a new location and the Royal wedding took less organisation than ours “
Bette laughed
“I was wondering if you remembered it the same way as me “
Tina lent back to look fully at Bette
“Let me think – I couldn’t decide what to wear – no dress seemed right. I couldn’t even pick a bra and pants set. You had a sprained ankle which had swollen to the size of a grapefruit which was threatening you wearing the $300 boots you had bought in London. Alice was coming up with more and more insane superstitions which were winding both of us up. Shane had fucked the caterer and when she dumped her she dropped the booking. So we had to find a new one with two weeks’ notice – while you screamed at the caterer because you had warned her off Shane. Dana was stuck in some eastern European country and could not get out because she had lost her bloody passport “Tina took a breath “My friend Connie had dumped your friend Gina and they both thought we should uninvited the other one and we couldn’t agree which one which led you to having a tantrum and threatening to call the whole wedding off and fly you and I to Vegas and get married by Elvis “Tina stopped “Is THAT what you remember?”
Bette laughed for a couple of minutes “I hadn’t remembered the Gina and Connie thing – who did we end up uninviting?”
“Neither – they made up at the wedding and we were at their wedding about 9 months later – they had twin boys now”
“Oh – oh yes – yes they did – I HAD forgotten about that drama – but you are right – it was a nightmare “
“This wedding is not going to be half as traumatic “
“The bill was frightening “Bette recalled.
“It was but you said it didn’t matter because we were only going to get married once “
Bette chortled “Did I say that?”
“You did my sweet “
“Another nail in my coffin on infallibility “Bette remarked wryly
“It is going to be okay you know “Tina said after a silence.
“The wedding?”
“Everything – everything is going to be okay. I know you are worried about Kit and me working with Peggy – but it will turn out the way it is meant to be “
“Even if my sister dies hating me “
“Kit doesn’t hate you – she loves you. I know she is acting like a prize bitch but it’s a disease. It is not something that she can help – like you couldn’t. I am so proud of you I don’t tell you often enough but the way you rebuilt your life out of nothing into what you have now – I tell you Bette it is amazing and I am so utterly proud of you. You have survived through sheer bloody-minded willpower – something I know you have in vast quantities. But it’s been hard and it’s taken its toll – so thank you for taking the day off tomorrow – for yourself and us “
Bette swallowed and looked at Tina “There are times when I forget just how well you damn well know me – and you suddenly show me and it takes my breath away and it scares me at the same time – I love you so much “

Thank you for finishing this part of the story. Seems as if the story could handle a sequel if you’re so inclined. I was reading “Running on Sunshine” and it is quite excellent. Maybe write more for that story?

It has taken me several days to read this book and its many chapters. I want to say that I love your Bette and Tina. I am thrilled to read a story in which these two women mature in their relationship and in their lives. I love how you have them teach each other how to communicate and how essential it is for their relationship. I am also impressed on how you present the aspect that the group was far to involved with each other’s lives to be healthy. Alice simply had no boundaries. I think Shane did and maybe even Dana did. Jenny was just crazy and Alice took no responsibility for her own actions and decisions. The biggest surprise was Kit. I guess that is what happens when you allow addictions to control your life.
This was a wonderful story and well written. I have really enjoyed it from front to back. I believe that Tina still has a bit more maturing to do but in time with Bette’s help she will get there. New York is truly a wonderful place for this family. Thank You for sharing this….I look forward to reading your other writings in the near future.
