“Are you insinuating that I was using my ancestral home as a rendezvous point or some sort of a hideout for drug traffickers?”

“Are you?” Agent Johnson replied. “Using your home for some illegal activities?”

“Of course not. All your evidence is circumstantial. You think I’m involved because some criminal activities were conducted on my family property? My sister Kit hasn’t visited the place in years. It is a private property but we only had the actual security there while Tina’s crew was filming a documentary at the mansion last year.”

“Documentary? What sort of documentary?” Agent McKinnon asked curiously.

“History of the Orange County and unsolved mysteries. The TNT picked it up as a ten-part series. It’s a work in progress,” Bette replied modestly.

Agent McKinnon wrote something in her notebook, “How long were they filming there? Is there any chance that someone from the crew was involved?”

“I highly doubt it. Everyone on the crew was working with the studio for years and I am confident that they were all vetted. I’m sure the Alphaville Studio can confirm this information. They take those kind of things very seriously.”

“So, this is your final testimony?” Agent Johnson tried to take control over the investigation again. “You have no knowledge regarding the illegal drug activities near your vacation home. No one from your family, your partner’s work or yourself is involved in drug trafficking. Your family home and its vicinity being used for some illegal activity is just a coincidence, is that right?”

“The mansion has been abandoned and neglected for quite some time. You cannot possibly think that a No Trespassing sign would stop any criminal, do you? Can you name one criminal that ever obeyed the law?” Bette smiled and shook her head, “Criminals using a vacant private property to conduct their illegal activities there? What a novel idea…”

“Are you mocking me, Mr. Porter?”

“Not in the least, Agent Jonson. Just stating the obvious.”

“You didn’t answer my question,” Agent Johnson stated impatiently.

“Do you have any substantial proof that the Porter Mansion, my family or I have been involved in the drugs smuggling? Was my name implicated in any way by the investigating team?”
