“Just say it Danielle.” Alice blurts out.
“I overheard a conversation this morning. Now I know this doesn’t affect everyone only a selected few but I thought it was pretty important to share, I guess.”

I lock eyes with Tina as our eyes and faces read guilt, I feel that our minds are thinking the same thing.

“I decided to take a little hike this morning and I overheard Shane and Rachel.”

I notice Shane’s facial express turn blank and lose colour, my eyes then direct their look down at Rachel who is staring at the ground.

“I’m sorry to inform you Bette but your best friend slept with your girlfriend.”

My body freezes as I try to process the information that just floated into my ears.

“Bette, Bette-“ I hear footsteps approaching and see Shane stepping towards me in an anxious manner. “Bette- you’ve got to let me explain- we took some drugs from a woman and we weren’t thinking straight- I promise you.”

My mind still stands still and it is like karma has finally beaten me in the ass. But through all of this, I feel a bit betrayed by my best friend. I know her hot heated ways step in before her brain sometimes gets time to process her actions but I never expected Shane to be the one.

“Bette-can you please answer me?”

I come back into focus and look at her. “So it is actually true?” I ask.

“Yes-but I promise you I was completely fucked up on E, we both were- we fucked up big time.”

I see Tina and Kit stepping towards me.

“Danielle get the hell out of here.” She says with anger in her voice before turning to look at me. “Bette, come with me ok?” She takes my arm and leads me away from the fire.

“Yeah, get your ass outta here girl.” Kit says following behind me and Tina. 

“Are you ok?” She asks me.

“I think I’m just in shock. And upset.”

“I can’t believe Shane did that.” Kit says to me shaking her head.

“I’m not the one to talk right now, I’ve been cheating on Rachel.”

“It’s different with us.” Tina cuts in. “This is Shane we are talking about here. I never even seen Rachel come to a defence, not even an excuse.”
