Tina shook her head and bit her lip. She needed to speak and she needed to do it now before the courage got away from her again, but there was something she needed to know first.
"Bette?" Tina started hesitantly, "How…uhh….what.. what happened to me?"
Bette stilled the movements of her hands as they finished rinsing off Tina’s hair. She let them slide away from the blonde head.
Sucking a deep breath, the vet took care to avoid the hazel gaze, preferring to take an interest in the bar of soap which lay in a little receptacle in the tiled wall. She grabbed it silently, rolling it in her hands to lather up for the next part of Tina’s shower.
"You were hurt, and you were taken to hospital," she simply offered.
Tina wanted to know the extent of her injuries but Bette, who had ignored her own feelings thus far, was not sure she was ready to relive the agonising hours she had spent at the hospital, awaiting the worst news with every passing minute.
Their gaze locked. Tina’s full of unanswered questions and Bette’s filled with the sadness that Tina had witnessed earlier on.
"Please Bette." Tina pleaded desperately wanting to ignore the look in Bette eyes, but she needed to know.
Bette was silent as she considered the request. She kept turning the bar of soap over and over in her hands.
Then without a word, the vet dropped to Tina’s feet and started lathering up Tina’s uninjured leg.
Moving upwards in steady, methodical circles, carefully, thoroughly covering the long limb with a thick layer of sweet smelling foam, Bette took her time, away from Tina’s gaze. She was hoping but deep down she knew it was fruitless, that her attempted disappearing act would keep Tina from pursuing with her question.
"Bette?" The inquisitive tone echoed through the small space once again but this time a little louder. As she spoke, Tina placed her hand on the side of the brunette’s head to try and coax Bette back up to eye level.
It worked and the vet very reluctantly straightened back up. This time though, Tina did not speak. Her imploring eyes did the work for her.

So 27 was the antipenultimate, huh? Still, wish there were many more….
This chapter is really well written, could feel the intensity and nervousness of it all. Especially the interaction between those two, and the reliving of the nightmare. Only one more chapter…boo
As Jackiet said, “only 1 more chapter, BOO,” I agree totally. Felt the pain and anguish both of them were feeling during that shower. Really hate to see this story end, maybe you can give us more on their budding relationship and see if Bette goes to US with Tina if she decides to leave earlier than she had planned or even if she decides to live in Africa with Bette. Give us more about their relationship and budding love. Just reaching because I hate to see it end. Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful story.

Thanks for the chapter. Glad that Tina is really going to recover and Bette is making sure that she knows that even with the bruises and scars-that she is still beautiful, sexy and wanted.
I’m so glad Tina has Bette there so support her through her healing process. It isn’t easy for either of them. I could feel the anguish Bette was feeling as she explained to Tina what happened to her. Even though she hasn’t used the word yet I think it’s apparent that she feels a deep love for Tina.
I’m so going to be sad when this ends but so wonderful writing. Thank you for this story.

Just a quick message to say you should be proud of yourself considering you would never before I think dared to go go past chapter 20. So this is an accomplishment in itself. And you have done a wonderful job just to let you know. Can’t wait for the next story already. C x

Kins!… you just made me do some happy dance … :D LOL… somehow knowing that this is NOT the last chapter is so exciting, THOUGH after that when realized that means only one more chapter to go makes me kinda in blue :-( Anyway… this chapter is so beautifully painful … or painfully beautiful eh?? .. :-p the way you play with words always amazed me! even simple scene as showering (pure showering! ;-p) also become some great scene in your hand. Amazing! … ^_^ I do hope the next chapter will be covering the future for them too.. if not, well.. maybe you can do that in the prologue?! :-p LOL.. with all due respect Kins, it’s your call as it’s your privilege as the writer! ;-) I’ll stick around for any update for you for sure. BTW one year older not always wiser as wise person with young heart is not an easy one to find! ;-)

Wonderful follow up Kins – sorry I’m so late in catching up to this one. Are you _sure_ this isn’t the antepenultimate chapter (hahaha)??? I want to 2nd Tibetter24 – It feels like there might be a wee bit more before their/your journey comes to a close. Not that I want everything wrapped up in a neat little package but I’m so curious about the fallout back at the foundation (not to mention what became of Shane, Augustine, Ellie…). Recounting the extent of Tina’s injuries was hard to read but I loved how sweet and caring Bette is for her here.
