Bette: “driver’s license and socials”

Jane: “yup…, hmm…, Bette, tell me…, none of you have been married before, right?”

Bette: “course not…, why?”

Jane: “I don’t want another drama here…”

When Bette finished talking to Jane, she called Louise.

Louise: “Bette…, tell me what is wrong?”

Bette: “nothing…, I just wanted to tell you something”

Louise: “how is Tina?”

Bette: “she is fine…, there is something you must know”

Louise: “something has happened to her?”

Bette: “Louise, please listen to me”

Louise: “okay”

Bette: “Tina and I are going to get married”

There was a long silence, Bette thought the communication was broken, she examined the cell phone but it was fine.

Bette: “Louise…, Louise…, are you there?”

Louise: “yes…, why it didn’t surprise me?”

Bette: “what do you mean?”

Louise: “tell me how it happened; because, if I didn’t know it’s impossible, I would think Tina is pregnant”

Bette: “excuse me, but I think Tina could get pregnant if she wants”

Louise: “I mean from you”

Bette: “shit…, why everybody thinks the same? No, she is not pregnant”

Louise: “I was just saying, because you both are genetic scientists, you can do weird thing…”

Bette: “Louise, this is serious, we’ll get married soon”

Louise: “okay…, how is that you both decided to marry…, because is a shared decision…, right? Please don’t tell me that is only you”

Bette: “hell, you too…, no, it’s our decision…, Tina and mine…”

Louise: “Bette, I don’t understand…, you both were sleeping together several weeks ago, then you broke, then again you were together, and lately you didn’t even talk to each other…, what makes you think this time is different and after few days you are not going to distance from each other again?”

Bette: “Louise, these last months, after your sister and I met again, we sensed we missed each other, and sometimes, being the two of us alone, to be intimate was a temptation that became irresistible, no commitment, no regret, no questions… just like the two friends we initially were as undergrads in MIT…; but the affair and the feelings grew and, as the phoenix bird is reborn from its ashes, we fell in love again…, as a matter of fact, I don’t think we stopped loving each other, I think we broke because I was very in love with  her, and couldn’t see what was behind her decision of breaking with me, and she loves me so much and tried to protect me sacrificing her own happiness…, Louise…, in those days, our love and understanding of each other was implicit; most the time no words were needed because we knew the other very well…, I think that was the problem, we didn’t talk at that time; but now we couldn’t let it go, we couldn’t endure another breaking…, so, we talk, we opened our hearts and shared all our feelings, fears and hopes; we made peace with our past deeds our demons and doubts; we acknowledged our mistakes, we reconciled with ourselves and with each other, we cried, and I proposed and she accepted, so…, we will marry as soon as possible…”
