Side Effects Chapter 9 – FACING EVIL

In today’s meeting, in the safe house, they are reviewing the different medical and psychological reports, showing a health improvement in 68% of the affected. Jane has a notebook where she was writing down her thoughts and observations.
Jane: “I have to submit a report to the Mayor, so, today I will take some notes…; well, all of you have informed there is around 70 percent improvement in the physical health of the victims…, could you explain to me which criteria are you using to reach such conclusion?”
Tina: “well, we have done DNA analysis as well as genetic markers evaluations to check the possible mutations and some other protein and hormone tests; we observed that big part of the physical damage has been reversed, we still have to deal with biological consequences and chemical imbalances in some of the victims, but with the treatment applied, we are improving their physical health”
Jane: “in 70 percent?”
Tina: “no, 68.33 percent…”
Some muffled laughs were heard in the room, especially from Maura and James, and Bette couldn’t contain her joy and kissed Tina on her cheek.
Jane: “hmm…, you think you are funny… eh”
Tina: “no, you just can’t give the wrong information to the Mayor…, it is 68.33%”
Jane: “okay… okay, I’ll write 70% in my report…, what about the psychological impact, those people were traumatized, is there any possibility of recovery?”
Dan: “well, we are trying to help the victims to cope with their experiences, some of them, the ones partially or totally physically recovered are progressing faster, but still some of them are self-absorbed and the best way to take them from that state is the interaction with their relatives and friends, though, the view of old photographs are also helpful”
Jane: “has there been any improvement in their mental health?”
Dan: “well…, definitively, yes, but is slow”
Jane: “can you give me a value, a percent of improvement”
Dan: “Lieutenant, in psychology is hard to give partial values of progress because the human brain the psyche is one whole thing…, people can apparently look better, but if they haven’t overcome their problems, they could go back to square one, and we have to start again”
Jane: “okay, Dr. Foxworthy, tell me, do you think that any of them would have a substantial improvement or we will conclude that none of them will overcome their traumatic experience?”

Hi SG:
I’m sorry, I knew you don’t like cliffhangers, but I left a cryptic message in FB and twitter for those like you who don’t like them, and is also in my author note.
But, anyway, apparently, I will have a little more time next week and I will try to post soon (I hope).
Thanks for reading and commenting.

Hi,
I know I read your notes, didn’t help me to deal with the Cliffhanger :-)
Well a week has passed, is the next post about to appear:-)
Look forward to letting go of this cliff sometime soon!
SG
Be patient, the first word in the next chapter. Almost ready.
P
Oh my God those Cliffhangers again!
You know you have to update this week!
Great story proteonomics!
Hi Bibi:
Thanks for your comment, I’ll try to update soon.
However, the ‘clue’ to solving the cliffhanger, is in those last two chapters. Then you may have an idea of what is coming in the next chapter.
The cliffhanger is the reason why this chapter is a bit longer than the former ones because I wanted to reach this point. Now, I’m feeling a little guilty.
Thank you so much, my friend, for your last words, and I’ll try my best to post soon.
