Slow Simmer – Part 2 – The Redux

Tina was suddenly curious. “She did?”

Angie was back to studying Tina’s profile as they drove through the hills towards the house.

When they pulled in the driveway Angie went to kiss her mom goodbye but Tina was stepping out of the car.

“You’re coming in?” Angie froze, surprised.

“Yea.” Tina stood next to the car, her hands on her hips, contemplating what her next step should be.

“Are you sure? I have a lot of homework so I can’t hang out.”

“Yes, and that’s ok. I just need to ask your mom something. Cmon.” She put her hands on her daughter’s shoulders as she followed her into the house.

    “Mom! We’re home.”

Oh for fuck’s sake. Bette raised her head in disbelief. We?

She took a sip of her wine, waiting a second to see whose voices she could hear before going out to the foyer. As much as she didn’t want to see Tina there, she was more relieved that Carrie was not standing in her house.

    “Hi!” Angie kissed Bette’s cheek.

“Hey boo. How was your day?” Bette focused on Angie, ignoring Tina standing just feet away from her. She could sense Tina fidgeting with her hands in her coat pockets as she stood next to the door.

“Good! I’m going upstairs to shower and do homework.” Angie wrapped her arms around Tina. “Goodnight Mom!”

Bette was forced to meet Tina’s gaze as the two hugged, the blonde’s eyes scrunched under her brow, a deep line appearing above her nose.

Tina didn’t want to break the eye contact with Bette so she held onto Angie a little longer.

“Ok, Mom, can’t breathe.” She chuckled into Tina’s neck. “Goodnight. You’re weird tonight, Mom.” Angie shook her head as she walked up the stairs.

Bette’s forehead rose as a hint for Tina to leave while she silently returned to the kitchen.

Tina remained by the door glaring at Bette walk away. She rubbed her temples and put her hair behind her ears. She knew she deserved this but she couldn’t leave here again without saying more. Tina stared up the stairs watching herself fumble down them this morning. She pushed her hands back in her coat pockets, an attempt to calm the emotions coursing through her body. She took a meditative breath and closed her eyes, shifting her weight before taking a step to follow Bette into the kitchen.

    1. Okay Tina… get the courage to go talk to Carrie and tell her what the story is … put her back on the plane to where ever she came from and get on with her life and you get on with yours… She is in LA because of you… you said yes when she asked you to marry her… the time has come to fix things… and stop torturing Bette. And stop torturing yourself. Do the right thing and set things so everyone knows where things stand. This game of running and hiding is getting old… you are either all in or you are out of the game. So decide Tina…

      Thanks for the chapter…
