Slow Simmer
Tina looked around the hall, her eyes darting from room to room before she turned around to look at Bette. She took a deep breath when she saw the look on Bette’s face, the distraught eyes trying to hide behind thick frames.
“It wasn’t supposed to go this way.”
“What wasn’t?” Bette answered coldly. Her back was to the door, her hand still on it so she could usher Tina out sooner than later.
“Tonight. This. Now. Fucking all of it!” Tina’s voice shrilled a bit at the end. Bette recognized the tone. Somehow Tina was making this her fault.
“Tina, I don’t want to fight with you. I’ve had a very long day and none of it…” Bette let her voice trail off. “Maybe you should just go.”
Tina took a step closer to Bette. “No.”
“I’m sorry, why? I’m asking you to leave. Nicely. I’m not upset, I just need to go to bed. It’s not my fault the announcement of your upcoming nuptials didn’t meet your expectations.”
Tina kept shaking her head, putting her hands in her pockets and looking down as Bette kept talking.
Bette felt herself begin to shake as the words poured from a crevice somewhere deep within.
“YOU asked me to have dinner. YOU came here for dinner and sat at what was once OUR dining room table. YOU are the one that announced you are marrying someone else. MARRYING someone, Tina. MAR.RY.ING! How is this my fault?” Bette pled exacerbated.
“Who said anything about this being your fault?” Tina’s tone was a somber yelp, a conflicting cry that Bette couldn’t interpret.
“I know that voice Tina, somehow you are blaming me for something I did or didn’t do as to why this didn’t go the way you wanted it to. Now, if you will please leave, I’d like to take my drink upstairs and go to bed.”
“I don’t want to leave. This is not what I wanted.” Tina’s voice now weighty, the truth hidden somewhere Bette could not reach.
“Tina, I don’t know what you’re talking about. I think tonight went rather well given the circumstances.”
Bette took a convulsed breath as Tina stepped closer to her. Bette still had one hand behind her on the door handle. Tina looked up at the brunette and tilted her head. The hazel eyes studying her ex-wife’s face.

This is a good story…. however, I think that Tina is a royal bitch. Sorry… what was the purpose of that? Sex for old time sakes? Seduce Bette? Then walk out the door to go meet with Carrie and carry on with the marriage plans? I find this Tina to be rather sadistic at best. She is being cruel and heartless to have announced her marriage, seduce Bette and leave her with a “I’ll always love you.”
Oh, and it is not Bette’s role in life to determine whether Tina is happy or not. It is a presumption that all people make the choices in their life for their own benefit and happiness. If Tina has agreed to marry Carrie, its because she wants to marry Carrie and believes it will result in happiness in her life. If that is not Tina’s belief then she is the one who needs to make another decision and take the actions that will make her happy. Tina is a grown woman – she choose to leave Bette, She agreed to marry Carrie and now she is using Bette apparently for her own physical pleasure for whatever reason. This is cruel for all those involved…. not good Tina…. Not good at all.
Thanks for the chapter…

I’m glad it wasn’t just me who felt the same way at the end of this story. My heart fell with sadness for Bette at being used by Tina.
After that i wouldn’t want to fight for Tine after that cruelty.

Loved this story. But I think I had a different interpretation than others. I don’t think Tina was being cruel. I think she’s acting like the lost little bird she always is when she’s not ‘with’ Bette. She knows she loves Bette, she tells Bette she loves her but now she’s made everything worse, panics, and runs. I still hope you continue it
