The Conversion

Bette: That’s an idea. And if we split the cost, that would be even more savings.
Tina: We just have to produce a good book that the public is anxious to buy.
Bette: And we need the right publishing house that is willing to market it. We may have to go on the talk show circuit to promote the book ourselves. That’s more travel and more expenses.
Tina: Nothing is easy, is it?
Bette: Never. Do you have any pets?
Tina: Yes, I have a couple of Corgis. They are about 5 years old now. I love those dogs. Their names are Burt and Ernie.
Bette: Oh, how cute. I have a German Shepard. Her name is Gretchen. She is getting old. I don’t think she’ll be with me too much longer. She is almost 9 years old. My housekeeper is taking care of her this weekend.
Tina: My friend Alice is taking care of Burt and Ernie. Keeps her out of mischief.
Bette: Shall we move to sitting room?
Tina: Tomorrow, we are going to have to find this indoor pool and get a little exercise. One day of rest and relaxation with no exercise is enough for me.
Bette: And since Helena has purchased us a nice new swimsuit, sounds like a good idea.
Bette and I found a movie to watch on Netflix. She wrapped us up in the quilt and we somewhat cuddled together to stay warm. I do not remember much about the movie. But I do remember how good it felt to have Bette sitting next to me sharing a quilt. I was developing a crush and there was no doubt about it. After the movie, she went to the bedroom to shower and prepare for bed. She would let me know when she was finished. She would dry her hair as I was in the shower. Her hair was gorgeous. Long curls in an auburn color. And she had lots of it. She had dark brown eyes which were expressive and deep. When she looked at me it looked like she could see into my very soul. I had hoped at that moment that my girl crush was still hidden. After all, we were going to be collaborators on a book and perhaps two.

I can’t think of a time when they are not together.
I’ll continue reading now, tough beginning though
I’ll comment on the flip side

Well, what a story, I really enjoyed it.
I love how they meet, their time at Camp David and the natural progression they took together.
Try really are perfect for each other and your story certainly reflects that.
I still can’t bear to think of them not being together!
Thank you so much, a beautiful story.
I look forward to the next one.
Janice24,
First of all this story is an alternative time and life for our Bette and Tina. The story is being told by a woman who is older (85 years old) and has experienced a full and joyful life with the woman she loved. They have had more than 40 years together even though they didn’t meet until they were middled aged. I like that they took the time to get to know one another for a few days before charging into a romantic relationship. I like that Bette insist that Tina think about her own life and if she is prepared for the changes which will occur as they start to see each other romantically. Bette wants Tina to make her decision about her life knowing the possible downside. For me, that shows immediately how much Bette respects and cares for Tina right out of starting gates. I also like that Bette insist they talk about things fully as they go. She seeks out Tina’s boundaries and comfort level before they do anything. This is why their relationship is so strong…. they hide nothing from each other.
From the idea to publication, I took 4 days… I enjoyed writing this story because I could see that both Bette and Tina would go from a mundane life to a life of love and devotion within a matter of weeks. And it would result in a lifetime of happiness. Isn’t that what we all want in our lives?
Thank for reading and for commenting on this story… until I saw your comments, I didn’t think anyone had read it…. Thank you for your support and encouragement…
OMG! How did I let this gem get past me. I loved every word. I would love to read something else from you, thank you so much for your talent.
OneStorm1 – Thank you for reading… I published this a little more than a year ago and I posted it this year on Achieve of Our Own. I do have three long book stories which is a single series and one other one shot which is about the same length as this one. I then not to writer about angst and problems between Bette and Tina. I think there are plenty of authors who present those kind of stories. All my published stories are on this website. Go to the story search page, put my name in under author (Martha3128) and they are all listed.
