    “I can’t Bette and my home is with you.”

    “Tina. I can’t do this. I can’t. Please just leave. You have to leave.”

    “I can’t leave. Even if I wanted to, I can’t. And I don’t want to.” Tina pauses, willing her heart to stay strong. She will not give up. “Anyway, Phyllis dropped me off and is on her way to New York. You’re stuck with me, Bette, now and forever.” Tina tries to hide her grin as she sees Bette soften just a bit.

    “Fuck!”

    “You want to?”

    “Tina!” Bette scolds.

    Tina chuckles at Bette’s shock and surprise. Bette turns her head unable to control her smile. She forgot how feisty and playful Tina could be. She collects herself and remembers her pain. She is not going to let herself get hurt again but she understands the predicament. As difficult as this is going to be, she admits she is happy to see the beautiful blonde that has been haunting her every thought.

    “Fine! My boat is at the resort. We’ll just go back in the morning and you can be on your way.”

    “I’m not leaving you, Bette.”

    “We’ll see.”

     

    Tina changes into a pair of thin sweatpants and a low cut tee shirt while Bette starts a fire. They have been going about their tasks in silence but stealing glances at every chance. When the fire is built, Tina sits on the sand with her legs crossed. She watches Bette digging into her bag.

    “Bette. I hate to bother you, but do you have any food? I haven’t eaten since the plane ride.”

    “Yes, of course. I’d hate to be accused of killing you by starvation.” Bette’s voice drips with sarcasm. Tina blushes as guilt takes over quickly. Bette glares at her.

    “That was really stupid of me. Honestly, I never thought that for a second. I swear I didn’t. I tend to word vomit terrible, hurtful things in the most ridiculous and monumental fashion when I feel the least bit threatened. It’s, I don’t know, a defense mechanism. I’m sorry, Bette. I’m so sorry.”

    7. Enjoying the story very much. Bette knows she wants Tina as badly as Tina wants her. She also knows she is going to give in and listen to what Tina wants to say to her. Can’t blame her for being stubborn but she needs to make Tina grovel a bit, Tina was very wrong to jump to conclusions and listening to helen is always a problem. Hopefully she has learned her lesson with helena. Oh please let Bette tear her a new one when they go back to New York, if and when they do. Meanwhile lots of loving to make up for all the problems. Thanks for posting.

      As I’m on vacation right now, I’ll hold off reading The Island again until I’m back home. Can’t wait to see what changes you made to it.

    10. Oh I’m so glad you came back to work on this one.. one of my favorites I just love Bette in this story..thank you..Tina is finally learning how to de-stress .. and I’m sure Bette has a few more tips to show her…lol..ok I’ll go wait for next chapter..
