The Island – Chapter 22

Bette doesn’t answer. She pulls out some fruit and hands Tina a banana and some grapes.
“I caught some fish earlier. Is that okay?” Bette hands Tina a bottle of water.
“That’s sounds great. Can I help?”
“No. They’ve been cleaned and seasoned already. I just need to put them on the fire.” Bette carefully places the grill over the pit and walks to her cooler. She pulls out two large Sea Bass wrapped in aluminum foil and two beers. She hands one to Tina and sets hers on a rock before laying the fish to cook.
“Wow. Thanks. Did you carry all this stuff with you?” Tina takes inventory. There’s the tent, a large cooler, paint supplies and an easel and a small box with pots and pans, and whatever else is inside the tent.
“No. I had Becky drop me off. I wanted to stay awhile.”
“Is someone picking you up?”
“That was the plan but I wasn’t ready. I told them I would hike back and meet them later. I’ll pick this stuff up on my way home.”
They fall silent once again as Bette tends to dinner. The air is thick with tension, as the night sky has taken over.
“Bette, can I tell you…”
“Tina, No! Don’t! Please… I can’t do this with you. My heart can’t take it. Let’s just get thru the next few days.” Bette pleads, her eyes dark and filled with pain.
“Okay. For now! But you will hear me out. Can I at least pass along some messages? From your friends?” Tina adds for good measure.
“Sure.” Bette smiles weakly. She has a soft spot for Tina in her alpha mode.
“Dana and Alice send their love and gratitude. They wanted you to know that they’re together and madly in love. Dana specifically wanted to thank you for ‘Plan E’. She said it worked like a charm.”
Bette laughs out loud. It melts Tina’s heart.
“Are you going to tell me what ‘Plan E’ is?”
“No. But I’m dying to know what happened to Plans A, B, C and D.” Bette laughs again, it lights up her eyes. Tina grins happily, enjoying the beautiful sight.
“I also talked to Stephanie. She and her husband are back together. Apparently, all those late and unaccountable nights at the office, he was actually at the gym taking swimming lessons. He was going to ask you to teach him how to surf. He wanted to surprise Stephanie with a trip to Hawaii for their five year anniversary.”

Enjoying the story very much. Bette knows she wants Tina as badly as Tina wants her. She also knows she is going to give in and listen to what Tina wants to say to her. Can’t blame her for being stubborn but she needs to make Tina grovel a bit, Tina was very wrong to jump to conclusions and listening to helen is always a problem. Hopefully she has learned her lesson with helena. Oh please let Bette tear her a new one when they go back to New York, if and when they do. Meanwhile lots of loving to make up for all the problems. Thanks for posting.
