Alice nods.

Alice “Well… well yeah, of course Dana’s supposed to still be with us, but… I mean people die. It sucks. I mean you should know that.”

Jenny has to keep herself from snarling at Alice’s statement.

Jenny “Kit died from a heroin overdose which makes no sense. I died from an accident that everyone keeps calling a suicide which makes no sense. Dana’s death was just cruel. I was willing to live with what happened to me after all the things I did in my last year, but Kit was innocent. Dana wasn’t about to stand for it and now she’s gone.”

Shane “Shit.”

Jenny “Exactly, Shane. There are entities out there who already know the truth about us. They already know we’re just playthings for their amusement.”

Bette “Just who are these ‘they?’”

Jenny “I don’t think you’re ready for that yet. I hate to be like this, believe me. This will all make sense by the end though.

Alice “I fucking hope so. Fucking end of the world happening outside my window and now we’re here!”

Jenny “We’re not the only ones. My reality was wiped out. Our reality was wiped out. And it happened by something more powerful than any of us.”

Bette “Jenny… I’ve had a long, miserable day as it is. I don’t have time for puzzles or riddles.”

“Then I’ll get to the point.”

Everyone turns and looks up at the sound of her voice. Her hair is red and her face is known to all of them as she walks down the rocky surface to where they are. With her is someone else who is known to all of them.

Alice “Lara.”

Shane “…Carmen.”

Lara “Jenny brought us here first. I hope that doesn’t piss anyone off.”

Carmen “I’m sure you’re as surprised as we are, but Jenny only brought me along, because I was with Lara at the time.”

Jenny “I would have brought you anyway.”

Carmen “Sure.”

That is when Bette, Shane, and Alice notice that Lara and Carmen are holding hands.

Lara “We moved on with our lives. Carmen moved to San Francisco and we were something of a power couple locally before the wave came.”

Carmen “We were the first to get hit and now it’s hitting your world.”
