The Real Tibette – Christmas 2023

‘Oh wow,’ said Bette, staring at it.

‘It has been washed,’ said the vet.

Bette looked up at him. There’s no way this man wanted a hug, but she gave him her very best smile.

‘Thank you,’ she said softly. She took the ring and pocketed it. ‘Is he good to go?’

‘Yes. Observe him for a few hours, but he should be fine. No running.’

Bette nodded. Solly put his chin down on his paws and gave her his best ‘too cute to be mad at’ look.

God save me from big brown eyes, Bette thought, as she got out her bank card.

Back at the house, Annette had bad news: she was triple-booked and could only stay for about fifteen minutes. But she said hi to Marty and Kate and a few others, got pummelled by Alice, signed Angie’s The Kids Are All Right poster, asked Tina for Bette’s number so she could call her, and then she was gone.

‘Nice lady,’ Sonny said when Tina came back from waving her guest off.

‘Yeah,’ Tina smiled. Then she looked across the room and saw Shane standing in the corner, beside the Christmas tree, cradling a bottle of beer and staring into the fairy lights as if they held all the answers.

‘So, I was thinking—’ Sonny began. But when he turned round, Tina was gone.

‘Well, Sol,’ said Bette, as she carried the little spaniel to the car, ‘make the most of this, buddy, because it’s never happening again. And if you poop on me, I’ll hide your rubber chicken.’

At the car, Bette laid the dog in his crate, tucking in his blanket and stroking his head.

‘You’re okay,’ she said. Solly licked his lips. Bette scratched him under his chin. ‘Idiot,’ she said softly. But the depth of her relief made her swallow hard.

    ‘Penny for them.’

Shane woke out of her daydream and saw Tina peering at her through the branches of the tree. She smiled. ‘Hey.’

    ‘Hey.’

Tina came round and stood next to her friend. ‘I think this should be winding up soon,’ she said. ‘I put five p.m. on the invite and it’s four-thirty, so . . .’

Shane nodded, but said nothing. Tina sipped her drink – straight-up cranberry juice and lime. All around them people were smiling and engrossed in animated conversations. A success!

Happy holidays to you also from across the big blue pond!

Interesting party with lots of extraordinary guests. Shame Bette couldn’t get to meet AB – but maybe will anyway.

Wow, Shane popping the BIG question. Hope this time its forever & they’ll both be happy together.

Gotta say that Sol might want to rethink about hanging around Sasha in the future – that girl is dangerous to be around!!

Thanks for another great glimpse into the wonderful life of Bette & Tina & their awesome family.

Thinking though that there should be a quick follow-up chapter about their Christmas Day though!! Ha!!

      Thanks for the treat.

      • Hi pal! YOu’ve just reminded me that I owe you an email! Oops. Really dropped the ball – sorry.

Thanks for reading this. And yes, I am moulding Sasha into being Trouble with a capital T. No fun if it’s all too easy, is there?? ;-)

I hope you’re well and that you’ve had a good time over the holidays.

    3. Sasha, Sasha, Sasha! Of course she will be the one telling tales of Mama T and Mama B to her children. What a pleasant surprise this Christmas night to find your story. And then to have Shane pop the question! Thank you for keeping the spirt of Tibette alive. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the readers of this site. Donate please!

      • Hi majic! Hope you’re well! Thanks so much for reading this story and for commenting. It means a lot to me. :-)

Y’know, it’s a real dilemma, writing this story, whether to skip ahead in time or not. In some ways, I’d really like to. I’me very drawn to the idea of writing B&T’s life with adult kids and grandkids etc. But then you end up skirting around the ‘d’ word and I don’t ever want to write that.

Agree about supporting this site! Hope you had a good time over the holidays!
