    Author Notes: Hi everyone! Here's a little Christmas story for you. I hope you're all well and that you spend your holidays doing whatever makes you happy. Take care and thank you to all who read my writing. Please also consider supporting Lesfan with a donation! Largo x
    Summary:
    It's the day before Christmas Eve and Tina is hosting her network's most exclusive Christmas party. But, as ever, there are more stories brewing under the Porter-Kennard roof .... (woof woof!) Enjoy!

    Everyone laughed and looked at Ben, who was standing nearby talking to Jed and Sonny. And then suddenly Solly barged into the group, wagging his tail and looking bright-eyed at Tina.

    ‘Hey, you!’ she smiled, crouching down to talk to him.

    And then Bette felt a tug on her arm. She turned round and saw Sasha beckoning her to bend down so she could whisper in her ear.

    ‘I have to talk to you,’ the girl said.

    ‘Why?’ asked Bette, looking at her youngest.

    ‘I . . . It’s important.’

    Sasha’s huge brown eyes flitted anxiously between Bette and Peggy and Tina, and then she grabbed Bette’s hand and pulled her behind her, through a sea of people, out of the kitchen and into the yard, where Herbie was waiting, dancing nervously on the spot and hugging himself.

    ‘Sasha, it’s freezing out here,’ Bette protested.

    ‘Mom . . .’

    ‘Hello, Herbie.’

    ‘Hi,’ said Herbie to Bette. He’d been told to call her Bette but it hadn’t taken.

    ‘What’s going on?’

    Sasha sighed, and tried to start a couple of sentences, then clammed up and looked at Herbie. He chewed his bottom lip. And then Sasha saw the look on Bette’s face – that look of calm and safety – and she just went for it.

    ‘I did something stupid,’ she said. Now the look changed: disappointment. But Sasha knew they had to get an adult’s help with this. ‘I found a ring in Aunt Shane’s room and I tried it on and it fell on the floor and Solly ate it.’

    Bette’s jaw fell open.

    ‘I’m sorry!’ Sasha wailed. She put the backs of her hands to her forehead, the way she’d always done when she was upset, since she was baby.

    ‘Okay . . .’ Bette said, her eyes darting around while she processed this, at the same time as she gathered Sasha into her arms and hugged her. ‘It’s okay . . .’

    ‘Is he going to die?’

    ‘No,’ Bette said, although at this point she had no idea. ‘When did he eat it?’

    ‘Like a minute ago,’ said Herbie.

    ‘Literally a minute?’ asked Bette.

    Herbie checked his watch, which was also a compass and a metronome and a flashlight. ‘About four minutes.’

        Y’know, it’s a real dilemma, writing this story, whether to skip ahead in time or not. In some ways, I’d really like to. I’me very drawn to the idea of writing B&T’s life with adult kids and grandkids etc. But then you end up skirting around the ‘d’ word and I don’t ever want to write that.
