    Author Notes: Hi everyone! Here's a little Christmas story for you. I hope you're all well and that you spend your holidays doing whatever makes you happy. Take care and thank you to all who read my writing. Please also consider supporting Lesfan with a donation! Largo x
    Summary:
    It's the day before Christmas Eve and Tina is hosting her network's most exclusive Christmas party. But, as ever, there are more stories brewing under the Porter-Kennard roof .... (woof woof!) Enjoy!

    ‘Okay. What did it look like? Did it have jewels on it or was it like this?’

    She showed her plain gold wedding band to Herbie.

    ‘It had a diamond,’ Herbie said.

    ‘Shit,’ Bette muttered. She looked back towards the kitchen and saw Alice talking to Martin Scorsese. She waved at her. Alice glanced, then ignored her. Bette waved again. Alice gave a wide-eyed ‘I’m talking to MARTIN SCORSESE’ leer. Bette responded with a shake of the head that meant business.

    A moment later, Alice stepped into the yard.

    ‘This better be good, Porter, I— Oh, hey, Herbs, where did you disappear to?’

    ‘We have a crisis, Alice,’ said Bette. ‘Do you have a phone on you?’

    ‘Sure.’

    ‘Great. Look up what to do if your dog swallows a ring.’

    In the living room, Shane was talking to Kit when Alice and Jed appeared. Alice said she had someone she wanted Kit to meet.

    ‘Who is it?’ Kit asked.

    ‘Someone very special!’

    ‘Who?’

    Alice stared at her, blank, then Jed said: ‘Smokey Robinson.’

    ‘What?’

    Alice burst out laughing. ‘Of course it’s not Smokey, it’s . . . Just come with me, okay? I promise you’ll like it, c’mon . . .’

    She levered Kit, not very patiently, up off the sofa, avoiding Shane’s perplexed expression, and then Jed quickly jumped into the vacated seat while Alice led Kit through to the kitchen and into the utility room, where she shut the door.

    ‘What’s goin’ on?’ Kit demanded.

    Alice brought Kit up to speed.

    ‘Oh my Lord,’ Kit sighed. ‘That girl!’

    ‘Yeah. Angie’s looking after her, and me, you, Jed and Sonny have to babysit Shane and Tina and make sure Shane doesn’t go in her room and Tina doesn’t wonder where Solly or Bette are.’

    ‘Oh my Lord . . .’ Kit keened.

    ‘Kit . . .’

    ‘All right, I’m on it. Does Sonny know?’

    ‘No.’

    Kit fixed Alice with a concerned look. ‘Is that little dog gonna be okay?’

    ‘Of course,’ said Alice, a little too casually. ‘I mean, he should be. Bette just needs to get him to the vet. Fast.’

    Which was exactly what Bette was trying to do. After Alice had googled their problem and discovered that they had about two hours to recover the ring via, shall we say, the upper route, Bette had called their usual vet’s out-of-hours service and been directed to the Blue Pearl animal hospital on West 15th Street. It was about a half-hour walk but she took the car in case Solly wasn’t well enough to walk home afterwards.

        Y’know, it’s a real dilemma, writing this story, whether to skip ahead in time or not. In some ways, I’d really like to. I’me very drawn to the idea of writing B&T’s life with adult kids and grandkids etc. But then you end up skirting around the ‘d’ word and I don’t ever want to write that.
