The Real Tibette – Christmas 2023

‘I honestly don’t know who I’m more vexed with,’ she said to him via the rear-view mirror while stopped at a light, ‘you for eating it or Sasha for snooping about in Shane’s room.’

Obviously Solly made no reply, crated in the luggage section at the back of the car. She sighed, feeling the adrenaline beginning to subside as she tapped her fingers on the steering wheel in time with the Goldberg Variations on Spotify. Then something occurred to her.

‘What was she doing in there anyway?’

The agent of chaos herself was glued to Kit’s side as they hid out in a corner of the kitchen, watching YouTube on Kit’s phone and trying to avoid Tina and Shane. Jo, however, happened across them as she went to get a cloth to wipe up a spill.

‘Salsa,’ said Jo, rolling her eyes. ‘I might as well just paint myself with it!’

Kit smiled. She, like everyone, liked Jo a lot.

‘Did you see Miranda yet?’ Jo asked Sasha. Sasha shook her head. ‘Oh, well, she’s right over there if you wanna come with me and—’

    ‘No thank you.’

Sasha’s tone was a lot less bubbly than usual, but Jo didn’t really register it because she was dabbing at her jeans.

‘So typical,’ she said with a wry smile. ‘I don’t even have a change of clothes with me and we’re going out later on this helicopter ride that Shane booked. Honestly, leave it to me to spoil anything!’

Kit just laughed, and felt Sasha grip her tighter.

The vet was a dour Mexican American with a neat moustache and a Snoopy t-shirt under his white coat.

‘Did you see the object he swallowed?’ he asked Bette as they both stood looking at Solly, sat on the metal examination table.

‘No. I’m told it was a diamond ring.’

    ‘So you don’t know?’

‘I know what I’ve been told.’

    ‘So he maybe swallowed nothing?’

    Bette blinked. ‘Uh . . .’

The vet sighed, then picked the dog up and walked to the door of the consulting room.

‘It’ll take about half an hour. We’ll do an x-ray to make sure something is there. Have a seat.’

He indicated the vast, soulless waiting room that Bette had walked through on arrival, then left her. Now it was Bette’s turn to sigh. She wanted to call Tina. In all situations, she always wanted to call Tina. But not this time. If it was possible to get this resolved without disrupting the party and, more importantly, causing Tina immense worry and distress, then that was what Bette wanted to do. She just hoped that, meanwhile, Alice, Jed, Kit and Sonny were managing to convincingly cover up for her absence.

    2. Hey Pal,

Happy holidays to you also from across the big blue pond!

Interesting party with lots of extraordinary guests. Shame Bette couldn’t get to meet AB – but maybe will anyway.

Wow, Shane popping the BIG question. Hope this time its forever & they’ll both be happy together.

Gotta say that Sol might want to rethink about hanging around Sasha in the future – that girl is dangerous to be around!!

Thanks for another great glimpse into the wonderful life of Bette & Tina & their awesome family.

Thinking though that there should be a quick follow-up chapter about their Christmas Day though!! Ha!!

      Thanks for the treat.

      • Hi pal! YOu’ve just reminded me that I owe you an email! Oops. Really dropped the ball – sorry.

Thanks for reading this. And yes, I am moulding Sasha into being Trouble with a capital T. No fun if it’s all too easy, is there?? ;-)

I hope you’re well and that you’ve had a good time over the holidays.

    3. Sasha, Sasha, Sasha! Of course she will be the one telling tales of Mama T and Mama B to her children. What a pleasant surprise this Christmas night to find your story. And then to have Shane pop the question! Thank you for keeping the spirt of Tibette alive. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all the readers of this site. Donate please!

      • Hi majic! Hope you’re well! Thanks so much for reading this story and for commenting. It means a lot to me. :-)

Y’know, it’s a real dilemma, writing this story, whether to skip ahead in time or not. In some ways, I’d really like to. I’me very drawn to the idea of writing B&T’s life with adult kids and grandkids etc. But then you end up skirting around the ‘d’ word and I don’t ever want to write that.

Agree about supporting this site! Hope you had a good time over the holidays!
