    The Roommates – 2nd Dimension: Chapter 66 – The 2nd Dimension Finale

It was with a heavy heart that Bette tearfully bid farewell to Alice and Dana, the remaining party-goers. It was particularly hard to watch Dana leave. They’d become really close in the past few months and Bette knew that Dana really needed her friendship.  When the door closed behind Dana and Alice, Tina stared at Bette from across the room.

“And then there was us,” she said.

Bette sighed. “You all packed?” she asked.

    Tina nodded. “You?”

    “Mostly.”

The curly-haired freshman looked over at her girlfriend, tears standing in her eyes, her heart aching. All year long it had always been the two of them. After the door closed on whatever visitor they had, it was always just the two of them. But in 5-6 hours time, that door would close, leaving one inside the room and one outside the room. They wouldn’t share the same bed tomorrow night. This was their last night together. The pain of their separation was killing Bette.

“Tina?” she asked, tears sliding down her cheeks.

    “Yeah?”

“How the fuck are we supposed to do this?” asked Bette, before sobs shook her shoulders.

Tina sighed and walked across the room, tears on her cheeks. She didn’t say a word, she just held on to her girlfriend. Held Bette close and let their pain become one pain.

Tina wanted to allay Bette’s fears and worries with nice thoughts and hope-filled sentiments. She wanted to give her lover something to let the dark-haired woman rest easy. But she couldn’t do those things. She couldn’t do them because she wasn’t at all convinced that her words would be true. She couldn’t whisper a bunch of nice-sounding, empty-hearted phrases and leave them hanging in their saddened space.

And so they said no more words. They held each other through the night, neither woman sleeping, each one afraid that sleep would quicken the passage of time. And shortly after 9am, Janice Porter called her only child to let her know that the one-car caravan of Janice, Bette’s Aunt Karen, and her grandmother were making their way to the campus and would be there soon.

On another occasion, the idea of that group of women together, heading to pick her up, would have been the highlight of Bette’s day. But today, their arrival would signify the end of her co-habitation with Tina Kennard. That was not a good thing.

Bette ended her phone call, walked determinedly to Tina, and slid her arms around Tina’s waist.

“I love you, T. I love you. I love you. I love you. I love you,” she whispered hurriedly.

“I love you, too. Hold me tighter, Bette,” Tina whispered.

Bette complied and held Tina tightly. “Me and you, T. Me and you against the world, right?”

Tina nodded and before her head could finish one full nod, Bette kissed her deeply. She tasted Tina in a way that would leave an impression on the young blonde’s soul. Their kiss ended and when it did, Tina replied “Me and you against the world.”

They stared at each other briefly before Bette’s cell phone rang again. It was her mother. The Bette Porter Caravan had arrived.

    2. Thankyou for this story, for not letting it fade away to nothing. Don’t ever think there are not a ton of people who watch for your postings!!! I’ll wait.

    3. I am saddened that they have to seperate even if it is for the summer. Maybe Tina can visit Bette. I did like Aunt Karen and hope that she can be there for Bette. I worry a bit about Tina because she has nobody to talk to about Bette. Please don’t keep our girls seperated tooo long.

    4. Hey MTS! I love this story and your writing is excellent. Am I nuts, or did ch 65 end differently than the start of ch 66 shows under “previously”. I show the last sentence of ch 65 being “And most importantly, why was Eric calling all of a sudden?” but your “previously” shows it as “When their call ended, Bette looked over at the newly framed photo of Kit she had on her desk. She smiled to herself and rushed to call Tina and tell her the good news.” Am I missing something?
