The Roommates – Pride & Prejudice: Chapter 8

“Damon?” she asked, as she stepped out of the room and into the hallway.

“It’s me. How you doin’ girl?” he asked.

    “I’m great. Where are you?”

“At my sister’s place. Can you roll with us tomorrow?”

Bette chuckled, her mood still buoyed by thoughts of Tina, unconditional acceptance, and comedic television. “That depends. Where are you rolling?”

“Nothing big. We’re going to go touristy…hang around Times Square, maybe grab a bite to eat. Check out a few stores.”

“Well, I’d love to roll with you and your sister.”

“Good. I can’t wait to see you. Can you meet us down there? Would that work for you?”

The two friends finalized times and locations and before long, Bette was chuckling with her parents in front of the 42” plasma.

“The 3 O’clock Diner” was quickly becoming a habit for the three friends. It wasn’t far from their apartment and was open 24 hours. The location and prices made it perfect for college students looking for an affordable home-cooked meal and the cheery, subtle 60’s décor left most patrons feeling relaxed and comfortable.

Alice sipped on her orange juice before asking Tina. “Did you talk to Bette, yet?”

Tina smiled broadly and replied, “I did. We talked all evening. It was so good to hear her voice.”

    “How is she?” asked Dana.

“Good. Great actually. She’s planning to visit in two weeks,” Tina replied.

Alice’s response was both genuine and bubbly. “That’s great news, Tina!”

“It is. I just don’t know how I’m going to make it another two weeks.”

Dana smiled. “You will. We’ll keep you distracted. We are good for something you know.”

Tina chuckled. ”Well, that remains to be seen. What did you guys get into yesterday?”

Dana shrugged. “We hung out. Went to the mall. Ended up going to the movies. Hung out some more. Wished you could have joined us.”

“I’d planned to…and then Bette called.”

Alice smiled. “And no further explanation necessary.”

It wasn’t long before their food arrived and it was only when her home-fried potatoes were nearly devoured that Tina looked up from her plate and wiped her mouth with a paper napkin. “I was so hungry,” she murmured.

    1. These girls are just so into each other they’re having trouble staying focused. I agree with bombasticbully. There is drama up ahead!! I love your long posts. Thanks for sharing your talent with us once again. PPS

    2. MTS–I’m sensing drama on the horizon in the guise of Debbie and Eric! Let’s get Bette and Tina together in LA sooner than the 2 weeks! I’m holding up a banner in hopes that will happen. PPS

    3. You know that summer is over with and schools are back in session? Bette and Tina are trying so hard to survive with this long distance between them. Please help them to continue to want to stay together.

    4. Awww MTS, you just made our day brighter! B’s reunion with Damon was very charming. They have been through a lot and they are sincerely bonded as close friends. Hmmm As for B meeting Debbie in the flesh, it was quite an experience for her, as they both share the same uncomprehension from some members of their families. Janice is being more perceptive of her daughter and we could appreciate her concern about B missing his father. B&T’s conversation was so sweet and honest, as usual. We smiled when Tina’s green monster of jealousy was so evident, while learning about Debbie. But above all, you can breathe and feel the magic of their love. You are taking us into a wonderful ride. Thanks for this marvellous update, MTS. We truly enjoyed it! PPS Lucero & Marsha (JC’s Salsa Aunties)

    6. Hello MTS, Great to have another wonderful piece of this puzzle from Your. I just adore the reality of Bette and Tina’s love for each other here. These girls so belong, willingly, to each other. There is not a question of that. And it is something that everyone around them can realize. David saw it, Debbie saw and even Gina saw it. They are so affected by each other that even 3000 miles can not quench their love and attraction. The night time calls are so sweet and precious. Can’t wait to reac more of this terrific tale. Many thanks from Your Loyal Fan.
